Two years ago, I took a big leap and started Aref Accounting.
At the time, my wife was pregnant with our second child, and our baby arrived just one month after I launched the business.
To be honest, I was scared. I didn’t know if I’d make any money or how I’d support my family. My wife even thought about cutting her maternity leave short so we could manage.
Fast forward two years…
We now have 5 amazing team members, over 500 clients, and we’ve become a Xero Gold Partner.
A few weeks ago, I went on a mini holiday with my family. I took a photo of my kids around the campfire and in that quiet moment, it really hit me:
Starting my own business was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.
Now I get to work on my own terms, not just the 9 to 5.
There have been a lot of long nights, tough days, and moments of doubt but I’ve learned a few important things along the way:
- Never doubt yourself.
- Dream big and believe in it, even when it feels impossible.
- Build a great work culture.
- Hire people you actually enjoy working with.
- And always pay people fairly and correctly.
I’m so proud of how far we’ve come and grateful for everyone who’s been part of this journey, especially my wife, my team, and all our amazing clients.
