My own thoughts take me by surprise sometimes!
As I was running along Bar Beach in stunning Newcastle this afternoon, I knew that my future self needed this run.
And that thought alone got me thinking!
Maybe it’s not just self-compassion we’re lacking in society.
Maybe what we really need is more accountability.
Hear me out 🫣
I work in Holistic wellness, I am a massive advocate for softness, rest, and unconditional self-love. I will always hold space for you (and myself) to slow down.
We need it!
But I do wonder, have we taken the quest for gentleness so far that we’ve become a bit spineless?
There is a fine line between giving yourself grace and using “self-compassion” to avoid doing the hard work.
When does too much softness or feeling sorry for ourselves actually start holding us back?
Self compassion should support us, give us that emotional foundation to be honest with ourselves, and push us to take responsibility.
Kindness and accountability can (and must) coexist.
Maybe it’s starting with the belief that you are fully capable of being gentle with yourself while still holding your ground (and your hand) through the process!
This isn’t just about forcing yourself into a 6 km run or rigid discipline. It is about recognising those exact moments of discomfort and choosing to stay accountable. Not 100% of the time. But 80% perhaps?
For me, it’s those places of discomfort where it is easy to negotiate myself out of the very things that would actually benefit me!
I’d love to know your thoughts on this!
