4 out of 5 people buying a home right now are doing it with a broker, not directly with a Bank.
That's not an opinion, it's the number. Brokers just hit 81% market share of Australian home lending, the highest ever recorded, according to the latest MFAA Quarterly Market Share Report. For context, it was 55.3% back in 2018. That's not a trend, that's a full shift in how this country buys homes.

Here's why I think it's happened. Lending has become more genuinely more complicated. More lenders, more products, more fine print, more ways to get it right or wrong. Going direct to one bank means you get one bank's answer, whether or not it's actually the right or best one for you and your circumstances.

I'm not surprised by the number. I see it every week, people who assumed their bank would provide the best and most competitive solution, then found out what else was actually on the table once we compared the market.

If you've never used a broker and you're not sure why you would, now is the time to make the move. Contact me - happy to explain what the difference actually looks like in dollars and accessibility, not just theory.

The RBA has held the cash rate at 4.35% this month, staying put following a trio of increases earlier in the year while it keeps a close eye on inflation and employment figures.

Good news if you're financing equipment or business assets: pricing stays predictable, so it's a solid window to lock in terms. Homeowners and investors get a bit more breathing room to reassess their loan setup, and buyers can move with more confidence knowing the goalposts haven't shifted. With supply still tight, well-priced properties aren't sitting around.

We're firmly in "wait and see" territory, and the RBA's next move depends on the data ahead. So whether you're refinancing, buying, or eyeing your next asset purchase, now's a great time to check where you stand. Let's chat.

Been told no before? That's not always the end of the story. Message me and let's find out what actually happened, and what still could.

Caught mid-call here, probably still on hold with a lender, comparing numbers for a client on a pro-active basis without even being asked 😉

Quick question, when's the last time you actually shopped around your business lending? Not switched banks. Not refinanced. Actually sat down and compared what else is out there. If the answer's "never" or "years ago," you're not alone, most business owners default to whoever holds their transaction account, because it's easy.

But easy and best aren't the same thing. Business loans, equipment finance, commercial property, the lender that's great for one is often mediocre for another, and banks won't tell you that. Brokers will.

I do this comparison every week for clients. Would appreciate the opportunity to do it for you too.

In a community like Newcastle, reputation really does matter, and that’s true on both sides of the table.

When lenders assess a business, they’re not just reading a balance sheet. They want to understand the story behind the numbers: how the business is structured, how debt is managed, and what the trajectory looks like. My job is to make sure that story is told clearly, completely, and compellingly.

As a local mum and business owner, I know what’s at stake when you’re making big financial decisions for something you’ve built. That’s why I work hard to understand your situation properly before I pick up the phone to a lender, so when I do, I’m advocating for you with confidence.

When we work together, you get someone who genuinely knows this community, backed by relationships with 40+ lenders.

To my fellow Newcastle & Lake Mac business owners. June 30 is closer than you think ⏰

The $20,000 instant asset write-off is available for eligible small businesses (turnover under $10M) until 30 June 2026. One important detail many people miss: the asset doesn’t just need to be purchased before June 30. It needs to be installed and ready for use by that date to qualify.

If you need finance to secure equipment or a vehicle before the deadline, don’t leave it to the last week. Loan applications, approvals, and settlements all take time. Starting the process now gives us the best chance of getting everything across the line in time.
Let’s get your business EOFY-ready.

Finance fatigue is real. It’s easy to feel overwhelmed by headlines about inflation and interest rates, and right now, those headlines aren’t wrong. The RBA has raised rates three times already in 2026, with inflation sitting at 4.6% and potentially peaking higher before it eases.

But national headlines don’t tell your individual story.

In Newcastle, the rental market remains one of the tightest in regional NSW. Vacancy rates are sitting around 1%, well below the 2% threshold that signals a high-pressure market. The lifestyle shift that’s been driving demand here for the past several years is still very much alive.

What that means for you depends entirely on your numbers. Your equity, your borrowing capacity, your timeline, and your goals. In a rising-rate environment, strategy matters more than ever.

My advice? Let’s grab a coffee and look at what the current conditions actually mean for your specific situation.

The Reserve Bank this week increased the cash rate to 4.35%, a move many expected following recent inflation data, but that doesn’t make the impact any easier for households already feeling the pressure.

For many Australians, it’s another reminder that the cost of living remains high, repayments may rise again, and financial decisions can suddenly feel overwhelming. It can be a challenging time, particularly for families trying to balance mortgages, rent, groceries, and everyday expenses all at once.

If you’re unsure what this means for your home loan, your borrowing power, or your financial plans moving forward, now is the time to ask questions. Sometimes a simple review of your current loan structure or repayments can make a meaningful difference. Reach out for guidance, support, and advice tailored to your situation.
