My colleague told me about the Telstra petrol discount and I decided to google and discover what else was out there that I didn't know about. Turns out there are a lot of options for saving money on petrol.

When times are tough in business its good to think about cutting costs or how you can create more revenue. For eg. if you have spare room in your delivery truck, why not offer it to another business? You will both save on petrol & delivery costs.

We can review your business financials and help you identify where you can cut costs and help your business survive.

The Tax Office are changing the rules about when employers must pay their employee's superannuation.

This change takes effect on 1 July 2026.

Currently superannuation must be paid by the 28th day of the month following the end of the quarter.

The new superannuation rules are called PAYDAY SUPER.

From 1 July 2026, employers are to pay their employee's superannuation on the same day that their payroll is paid. Super must be received by super funds within 7 days of payday.

Are you ready?

You can get information from the Tax Office website using this link -
https://www.ato.gov.au/businesses-and-organisations/super-for-employers/payday-super

This will impact your payroll processes and cashflow. We can set up the new process for your business & give your team training. We can also help you see the impact on your cashflow.

I am passionate about helping people, so what can I suggest for business owners in these industries?

Construction - 49% of businesses failed due to making losses, inadequate cashflow & poor strategic management. I have heard that the cost of materials has increased in the construction game. So, how do you stay profitable? Make sure you do a calculation of costs for each job and quote a price that includes the profit you need. Get 3 quotes on materials & subcontractors to get the lowest cost. Ask for deposits or instalments from your customers based on work completed rather than waiting until the job is finished to invoice.

Accommodation / Food Services - 54% of businesses failed for the same reasons as Construction. The cost of living is a challenge for everyone, so perhaps people are travelling less to save money, or like me, do you want to get away as a stress relief? On the plus side, perhaps people will travel more in Australia to save money, rather than travelling overseas. Petrol prices will now also have an impact on travel so it's good to be creative & flexible to make sure you are still getting sales. Business people still need to travel - perhaps you could target business conferences. What other businesses can you align with to get more sales - catering? parties? conferences? Think about the business industries that are successful right now - AI and digital businesses could have money available to spend on employees.

Its critical to have a cashflow forecast to make sure you are staying afloat. In just a few hours, I could show you how to set up a cashflow forecast for your business in Excel.

Let's Talk About the Tax Office

The key taxes that businesses pay are:

1. GST
2. Income tax

If you have to pay GST in your BAS, it means you a making a profit, which is a good thing! Your BAS payments largely represent GST you collect from your customers.

Income tax is a share of the profit you make on your business. You may need to make instalment payments in your BAS payments, rather than paying annually when you do your tax return.

Both of these taxes represent money you should have already received. That's why the tax office expects you to have the funds to pay immediately.

If you don't have the money, you are spending money that you should be putting aside for the tax office.

We can help you create a cashflow plan for your business in Excel. Wouldn't it be nice to no longer stress about calls with the tax office?
