Last week, the VATAi team joined Amazon Accelerate 2026 in Seattle and eCommerce Expo 2026 in London.

🇩🇪 Germany has made Authorised Representation mandatory for affected foreign producers under its Packaging EPR rules.

Since 12 August 2026, businesses established outside Germany, with no German branch, that supply empty packaging or packaged products directly to end users in Germany must appoint a Germany-based Authorised Representative (AR).

Previously voluntary, this requirement is now mandatory for affected foreign producers.

What Should Sellers Do Now?
🔹 Not yet registered in LUCID?
Check whether German Packaging EPR applies to your business, complete your LUCID registration, and appoint an eligible German AR where required.

🔹 Already have a LUCID number?
Your existing registration remains valid, but if the new AR requirement applies to you, you still need to appoint an AR and update the relevant details in LUCID.

Affected foreign producers without an AR may now also see an Authorised Representative reminder directly in the LUCID portal.

🇫🇷 France’s e-invoicing reform starts tomorrow. Is your business ready?

From 1 September 2026, all in-scope businesses in France must be able to receive electronic invoices, while large and medium-sized businesses will also begin mandatory e-invoicing and e-reporting.

But France is only one part of a much bigger shift across Europe.

Germany, Belgium, Poland, Italy, Spain and other EU markets are all moving at different speeds, with different formats, platforms, timelines and scope requirements.

And for cross-border sellers, simply holding a VAT number in a country does not automatically mean the same e-invoicing obligations apply.

So where should you start?
✅ Identify which legal entities and transactions are in scope
✅ Check requirements market by market
✅ Separate e-invoicing from e-reporting obligations
✅ Make sure your invoicing systems are ready for structured invoice data — not just PDFs
✅ Prepare ahead for upcoming EU-wide changes under ViDA
