This is forward from a satire page, every thing he says is horrible, horrible advice.
If any client sent me this letter, I would not be able to sleep for 36 hours. I would probably break into a cold sweat, and would not be able to sleep until it is resolved.
This is the accountant equivalent of a “code blue”.
If you EVER get a collections letter from the IRS, let your accountant know ASAP.
I’m honestly tired of everyone acting like filing taxes is some mandatory life-or-death responsibility. taxes are OPTIONAL. The IRS literally just ‘suggests’ you file. they don’t even check anything unless you basically snitch on yourself.
People don’t realize you can legally make up losses on EVERYTHING. Didn’t start a business? Doesn’t matter. Just SAY you did and claim you ‘lost’ money. Bought food? Business loss. Drove to work? Mileage deduction. Slept? Write it off as ‘rest required to maintain productivity.’
This whole ‘you’ll get in trouble if you don’t file’ thing is fear mongering. The IRS can’t prove you made money unless you admit it. If you never acknowledge income, it technically doesn’t exist. That’s literally how rich people avoid taxes — they operate on ‘projected losses.’
Everyone panicking over these letters needs to relax. You can owe $97,000 and literally NOTHING happens as long as you keep saying you’re at a loss. The government can’t take money you claim you don’t have.
I’m just saying… maybe the real scam is voluntarily paying taxes when you could just write ‘-$50,000 loss’ every year and go on with your life
