Today, we honour the past, listen with open hearts, and commit to learning, understanding, and reconciliation.

May we listen with respect, learn with intention, and move forward with understanding. By acknowledging the past, we can learn from it and help ensure that the same actions and injustices are not repeated in the future.

You don’t have to spend the whole year worrying about taxes when you have the right professionals by your side. 🇨🇦📊

To keep your business organized and avoid surprises during tax season, having these three professionals can make a big difference:

1. Bookkeeper 📚
Keeps your books organized, accurate, and up to date, giving you reliable numbers to track your business performance throughout the year.

2. Tax Preparer 🧾
Prepares and files your tax returns accurately, helping you meet your tax obligations and filing deadlines.

3. Tax Strategist 💡
Works with you throughout the year to identify legitimate tax-saving opportunities and plan ahead for your potential tax liability.

And even better: having one tax professional who understands both tax planning and tax preparation.

This allows you to plan throughout the year with someone who understands your financial situation and can also prepare your tax return.

At Nardi Accounting, we have professionals who can support you with bookkeeping, tax preparation, and tax planning, giving you greater organization, clarity, and peace of mind when managing your business.

Do you work with independent contractors in your business? 🇨🇦📊

If you hire freelancers, contractors, or other service providers, keeping accurate records from the beginning can make your business bookkeeping and tax filing much easier.

Make sure you keep records of:

✔️ Legal name or business name of the contractor
✔️ Address and contact information
✔️ Business Number (BN), if applicable
✔️ Invoices for services provided
✔️ Records and proof of payments made
✔️ GST/HST registration information, if applicable

💡 And here’s something important: depending on the type of service, the amount paid, and the circumstances, your business may have T4A reporting requirements.

Keeping your documentation organized isn't just about staying on top of your bookkeeping, it can also make year-end tax preparation easier and help you meet your reporting obligations.

GOOD NEWS for Canadian businesses! 🇨🇦💰

The government has announced a new measure that could provide an important tax benefit for businesses investing in equipment, machinery, computers, and other eligible assets.

The proposed Productivity Mega Deduction would allow certain investments to be 100% deducted in the year the asset becomes available for use, instead of spreading the deduction over several years.

💻 For example: a $5,000 computer that could generate approximately $1,375 of CCA deduction in the first year under the traditional rules could, if eligible under the new measure, generate a $5,000 deduction in the first year.

👉 This could mean a reduction in corporate income tax payable and improved cash flow in the year the investment is made.

⚠️ Important: The announcement still needs to be formally enacted into legislation, and the CRA will need to provide further guidance on how the measure will be applied.

If you're a business owner planning to purchase equipment or make investments in your business, it's worth keeping an eye on this change before making your tax planning decisions.

📌 Save this post for later and share it with another business owner who should know about this!

Before buying equipment just for a tax deduction, focus on investments that can actually improve your business.

You can consider equipment like:

- Technology upgrades such as computers, workstations, servers, or automation equipment that can improve productivity.

- Industry specific equipment such as machinery, commercial vehicles, or specialized tools your business needs to operate or grow.

- Efficiency systems such as point of sale equipment, barcode scanners, or warehouse technology that can streamline operations.

Also remember, purchasing equipment by December 31 does not necessarily mean it qualifies for a current year deduction.

Timing and tax treatment depend on the specific asset and applicable tax rules, so check with your tax professional before making a large year end purchase.

🎒📚 Back to School in Canada: time to organize the school supplies… and your receipts too!

With the kids heading back to school, expenses can quickly add up and some of those receipts may be important when it’s time to file your income tax return.

💡 A simple tip: keep receipts for expenses such as:

👧 After-school care / daycare
Childcare expenses may qualify for the Child Care Expense Deduction, depending on your situation.

🏕️ Day camps and summer camps
Some childcare programs may also qualify, depending on the type of program and the circumstances.

🚗 Expenses related to childcare
Certain specific costs may be eligible, so it’s always a good idea to keep your documentation.

📄 School-related receipts and documents
Not every school expense qualifies for a tax benefit, but keeping your records allows your accountant to determine what may or may not be claimed.

💰 And don’t forget about other tax benefits!
Depending on your family situation, income, and eligible expenses, there may be different credits and deductions that can affect your tax return.

👉 The golden rule: Don’t throw away a receipt just because you’re not sure whether it’s deductible. Keep it and let your accountant check!

📌 Save this post as a reminder the next time you receive a school or after-school receipt!

💰 Tax Installments: Do you know how they work?

If you received a letter from the CRA asking you to make tax installments, it means you may need to pay part of the income tax you expect to owe on your next tax return in advance.

These payments are usually made quarterly, on March 15, June 15, September 15, and December 15.

📌 The amount suggested by the CRA is based on your tax history and can be reviewed based on your income and tax situation.

That’s why it’s important not only to make your installment payments on time, but also to do some tax planning to understand how much you may actually owe.

👉 Save this post for the payment dates and share it with someone who received a CRA installment notice!
