📣 Music Nova Scotia Investment Program Changes 📣

Annually, Music Nova Scotia has received $630,000 from the Department of Communities, Culture, Tourism, and Heritage (CCTH) to apply toward direct investment in artists and music businesses. With the tabled provincial cuts to Anchor Organizations, that number has been reduced to $504,000. In an effort to continue to support Nova Scotian artists, and in consultation with the Music Nova Scotia Membership and CCTH, changes are being made to the Music Nova Scotia investment programs.

🔊 : THE AMPLIFY SUMMIT 🔊

This year for International Women's Day, Music Nova Scotia invites women, trans, non-binary, and gender non-conforming artists and music industry professionals to join us at The Amplify Summit, an afternoon dedicated to providing long-term professional development, mentorship, and systems-building.

Taking place from 1 pm - 7 pm on Monday, March 30, 2026 at the Local Women’s Council House, sessions will include:

➡ Running the Room: Band Leadership & Stage Tech Basics
Leading a band requires more than musical ability; it means setting the tone, communicating clearly, managing personalities, and making decisions that keep both the show and the team moving forward. This practical session explores the leadership and technical skills artists need to run a successful live show, from rehearsals and creative direction to navigating conflict and maintaining professionalism on stage and on the road. Participants will also learn the fundamentals of live sound setups, including monitoring, in-ear systems, and the basic gear artists may want to consider when building their live performance setup. The session will highlight how artists can communicate effectively with sound engineers, advocate for what they need on stage, and create a live environment that supports confident, collaborative performances.

➡ Power Moves: Building Your Team & Negotiating Your Worth
Success in music isn’t just about talent, it’s about understanding how the industry works and knowing when and how to build the right team around you. This session explores how artists navigate relationships with managers, agents, labels, publishers, and collaborators while developing a clear understanding of contracts, deal terms, and the power dynamics that shape negotiations. Panelists will share practical insights into when it makes sense to expand your team, what different industry roles actually do, and how artists and professionals can approach agreements with greater confidence, clarity, and leverage to build sustainable, long-term careers.

➡ Designing Safer Music Spaces: From Backstage to Boardroom
The Summit will close out with a conversation exploring what currently makes artists and industry professionals feel unsafe or unsupported, and what practical improvements could meaningfully shift that experience. Participants will identify realistic actions for the next 12 months and determine shared ownership and commitments to strengthen safer, more inclusive working conditions across Nova Scotia’s music ecosystem.

This event is open to ALL women, trans, non-binary, and gender non-conforming participants in the music sector. Space is limited, please RSVP to secure your spot:

📣 DEADLINE POSTPONED 📣

As a result of the proposed budget provincial cuts and their impact on Music Nova Scotia’s programs, the March 15 Investment Program deadline will be postponed to April 15, 2026. The applications for this period will open on April 1, 2026.

This postponement will allow Music Nova Scotia to reassess the annual funding allocations we manage on behalf of the Department of Communities, Culture, Tourism, and Heritage. It will also provide ample time for Music Nova Scotia to meaningfully review and incorporate feedback from the Investment Program Survey.

If you have not yet filled out this survey, please do so here:
