Carey is our Client Experience Lead and comes with a wealth of knowledge when it comes to customer service. Carey is a certified floral designer and spent many years helping brides with their perfect bouquet! Carey and her husband owned and operated Village Chocolatier in Oak Bay for 7 years! After raising their daughter, Carey worked in retail gaining valuable leadership and management experience.

Happy New Year! It’s unofficially the first week back to ‘reality’ for some. As we enter back into routines and new routines it can feel like a bit of a bumpy road wondering where to start or maybe you’re already on top of it and crushing those goals. Wherever you’re at is the right place, try not to put that pressure on yourself to go full force at the beginning of the year. Progress happens over time.

There are many things happening for 2025 and we know alot of you are focusing on paying off debt, but we were also happy to see you wanted to financially educate yourself and we are here for this! Keeping up to date with financial education is crucial for a healthy financial plan.

Our final tip! This weekend is known as one of the busiest weekends before Christmas. Getting all those last minute items done. Before heading out make sure to pre-plan and create a list so you know what items you need & avoid buying something you don’t. If you want to really be prepared, put items into categories such as gifts, food, etc. and set a budget for each category. Example: $100’for stocking stuffers.

For the person who has it all and loves everything digital. Give the gift of e-books, streaming services (commit to pay for a portion or 3-months). Gift cards are always a great option, you can stay within budget and they have the fun of choosing what they would like in store or online!

Bonus if you find the shops offering promotions when you purchase a gift card! Maybe a little treat for you 🎅

Unsure what to buy everyone on that list this year? And maybe feeling a little nervous about the cost, even with a tax break coming. Organize a gift exchange with friends or family to limit the number of gifts you need to buy while still spreading the holiday cheer.

Get creative with it, add in a theme or make it whacky gifts. The key is to set a limit i.e. $30.00 max. The best part is it’s less pressure on you to get everyone on that list a gift, now you can enjoy the holidays without the financial strain.

This might be the obvious, but it’s quite easy to lose track of our spending, especially when we use a plastic card and can’t physically see what we have spent. Too many times have I gone well over budget.

Tip:
Before you start shopping, decide how much you’re willing to spend in total and on each person. Stick to it! Use cash if you’re a visual person - take out some cash and only use that for easier tracking.
