What comes to mind when you imagine your older self?

Iโ€™m 44 years young โ€“ and thatโ€™s part of the secretโ€ฆ

Keeping a positive state of mind.

Sure, my body is aging โ€“ gracefully, of course. ๐Ÿ˜‰

I'm trying MY BEST to unite my physical, emotional and mental well-being.

My lifestyle choices are helping to improve prospects for healthy aging.

Will I live for another 58 years until Iโ€™m 102?

I donโ€™t know.

But, wouldnโ€™t it be fun to try?!

Aging doesnโ€™t have to be a barrier to a good time.

Self-acceptance can lead to the best outcomes.

Stress less, smile more and have fun.

Enjoy a more vibrant life!

So, how do we age with QUALITY?

Know your purpose.

Have a reason for waking up in the morning.

Connect with your mind.

Read and write.

Meditate or pray.

Practice daily affirmations.

Focus on feelings of gratitude and joy.

Find something that allows you to keep learning.

Take up a new hobby.

Connect with your body (and your mind).

Exercise.

Work around the house, garden, walk, laugh and play.

You feel more powerful when you move your body.

It helps your self-esteem because youโ€™re able to be more independent.

It also jumpstarts your brain and allows you to think more clearly.

Connect with nature.

Ocean or mountain or lake view?

Grow your own herbs, fruits and veggies.

Eat organic and healthy foods.

Treat yourself occasionally too.

Connect with people.

Friends and family can keep you young.

Go out for lunch or have a video chat.

Join a social network or spiritual community.

Look on social media to find your tribe.

Take preventative steps to keeping your mind, and body, active and healthy.

We canโ€™t control every factor that determines how well and long weโ€™ll live, but we can be proactive โ€“ and feel better as a result.

THE BEST TIME TO START IS TODAY!

Itโ€™s never too late to TAKE ACTION.

First, pick a motivating goal.

WHATโ€™S YOUR WHY?

Whatโ€™s one thing youโ€™d like to keep doing as you get older?

Or, perhaps thereโ€™s something youโ€™d like to start doing?

Once you have a powerful motivator, take the next step.

Tap into a community that will support your goals โ€“ have you considered ours? ๐Ÿ™‚

๐——๐—ฒ๐—ฏ๐˜ ๐—ด๐—ผ๐˜ ๐˜†๐—ผ๐˜‚ ๐—ฑ๐—ผ๐˜„๐—ป? Between the mortgage, loans and credit cards, paying everything off can feel impossible โ€“ but with these tips, it doesnโ€™t have to be!

Take control of unnecessary debt.

Rollover formula:

Attack the debt with the highest interest rate first, while paying minimums on the others.

When thatโ€™s paid off, put that same payment amount towards the card or loan with the next highest rate.

Repeat until all debt is paid off.

Then, apply that monthly payment to your savings instead!

Snowball method:

Attack the debt with the smallest principle first, while paying minimums on the others.

When debt one is paid off, combine that payment with the minimum on debt two.

Your payment will increase each time you switch to the next debt, so eventually youโ€™ll be making the largest payment on the largest debt.

Now, stay in control!

Limit your credit card use to small purchases youโ€™d make anyway, like gas and groceries.

Pay off your credit card balance monthly.

Create a monthly budget and try your best to stick to it.

Contribute to your emergency fund for unexpected costs.

Start a side hustle and put the income towards your debt, and future dreams!

Can you relate to Maryโ€ฆ?

Mary is 42 years old with dreams of retiring early at age 55 to spend time on her true passions.

Sheโ€™s an employed teacher, and loves her job. She has some savings in a RRSP and TFSA, and she has her teacherโ€™s pension to look forward to.

BUT, will it be enough retirement income for her desired lifestyle if she lives into her 90โ€™s or beyond? Likely not.

What could she do to provide more certainty and security in her retirement income plan?

Mary could start by talking to a financial planner to discuss her options.

Canadians are living longer and fewer of them have guaranteed income from company pension benefits. Because of improved health care and longevity, itโ€™s possible retirees could spend several decades, as many as 30 years, in retirement. This means their retirement income needs to last longer.

What are you doing in your retirement income planning to provide for a longer life span so you wonโ€™t run out of money?

When you build an extension on your home, the first step is looking at what is already there. What foundation are you working with? This is a necessary step in determining what to build next. The same applies to life insurance.
