Hello Again 👋

It’s been a long time since I’ve posted - almost a year, actually!

But I’m still here! 😊

The past year has been a busy one behind the scenes. Smith Accounting & Tax has continued to grow, I’ve had the opportunity to work with some great business owners, and I’ve had lots of new experiences along the way.

It’s been a year of growth, new challenges, and building a practice that I’m really proud of.

I’ve never been particularly good at keeping up with social media (clearly 😂), but I thought it was time to pop back on and say hi.

I’ll check in here from time to time and share some of what I’ve been working on, along with the occasional tax or accounting tip.

With over a decade of accounting experience, I help incorporated businesses make confident, informed financial decisions — and stay ahead of tax season.

I started my accounting career back in 2013, earned my CPA in 2017, and have since worked at small, mid-size, and national firms across B.C. and Alberta. After years of helping business owners navigate everything from tax filings to strategic planning, I launched my own practice in Langley in 2024. 🥳

One of the most common questions I get from small business owners is: How far can I push my deductions?

When an expense is part personal and part business (like your home internet or vehicle), where do you draw the line?

Tax deductions can absolutely save you money. But claiming too much or stretching the truth can backfire fast if you’re ever audited. Some people take the “I’ll defend it later” approach. Others prefer to play it safe. So what’s the right move?

Here are a few things to keep in mind:

💵 CRA audits do happen — and they’re strict about what qualifies
💵 Big swings in deductions from year to year can be a red flag
💵 Conservative, consistent claims often mean fewer headaches

Since opening my doors last September, I’ve had the opportunity to support 13 corporate clients and 68 individuals with everything from tax filings to financial strategy — and it’s been an honour to help each one feel more confident about their numbers!

Building this practice has been equal parts rewarding and humbling, and I’m so thankful for the trust my clients have placed in me during this first chapter.
