Lori K Aitken - Bookkeeper

Lori K Aitken - Bookkeeper 🇨🇦Teaching business admin self-sufficiency via simple daily habits for QuickBooks, calendars, & task lists. Do it daily. Do it first. Do it yourself.

Small business owners wear many hats, not the least of which includes owner, operator, finance manager, advertising executive, designer, manufacturer, distributor, service provider, and the list goes on. While every entrepreneur starts out as this task-juggling do-it-yourself-er, eventually you hit a critical tipping point when administering the business is preventing you from the opportunity to g

row your business. Choosing to let someone else steer the financial reins isn’t easy. I wholeheartedly understand. Whether you simply need assistance in getting set up with a functional bookkeeping platform or you want to hand off the whole process entirely, I’m here to help. Let’s meet for coffee and figure it out together.

I’m convinced there’s little else that’s scarier than entrepreneurship.

Having someone alongside you for the wins and the challenges can make or break whether you stick with it or not.

I want to be the bookkeeper who’s your first point of contact for any and all questions, whether they’re seemingly insignificant or serious and significant!

Filling in those knowledge gaps soothes the “scaries.”

Comment or DM ZOOM to get on my email list so you won’t miss the 50% off savings coming the week of July 24-31 for Founding Class members of my new Independent Business Care Centre membership for Canadian small business owners.

Your media feed says you should be at the beach (definitely schedule that beach day), but future you will be your business bestie if you take a few minutes this summer to update your bookkeeping categories to match the CRA T2125 Statement of Business or Professional Activities income tax form.

Why do this? It ELIMINATES the guesswork of where to enter your expense totals in next year’s income tax form. This pro-hack makes it possible (Dare I say, easy?) for sole proprietors do to their own income tax return each April in Canada and save all of the time and money involved in having someone else prepare your tax return.

After all, prepping the data is 90% of the process of tax prep. Why does your tax preparer get all the glory when you did 90% of the work?

Need help implementing something like this? This is one of the topics I cover in my Independent Business Care Centre membership (IBCC). It’s a low-ticket membership environment, launching officially on August 1, 2026, designed to be informative while still informal (because as entrepreneurs, we’re all friends here).

Until July 31, 2026, small business owners like you can start to get involved and test the waters FREE at my Office Hour sessions on Mondays at 11 am EDT.

Comment or DM ZOOM to sign up to participate or at least get the promo emails for a lifetime 50% off discount during the last week of July (aka pre-launch week.)

This is page 3 of the CRA T2125 form.

You’ve probably never seen it because it doesn’t look exactly like this in most income tax return software.

However, this is what it looks like on the finished tax return.

This slide is pointing out the Cost of Goods Sold/Costs of Service categories.

Keeping with page 3 of the CRA T2125 Statement of Business or Professional Activities form.

Most small business owners get a little too excited and create really granular categories for tracking their business expenses. Doing so makes it hard to track your expenses consistently, AND it’s somewhat moot because your data needs to be drilled down to these CRA categories.

As entrepreneurs, we often have an idea in our minds of how we want a situation or circumstance to play out.

Some of us are good at accepting the fact that things aren’t going to plan and can pivot. Others, like myself, struggle a bit more than most to admit defeat and change the plan.

Regardless which of those categories you fall into, we deal with setbacks more often than most people.

I’ve come to realize that what’s most important is that I shake it off and start again. Those two little words make all the difference…start again.

If you’re struggling to find your groove with your bookkeeping, accept that you’re human, and just start again.

I’m an entrepreneur, just like you. Same frustrations. Same delays. Same fires to put out. Same tech troubles.

We all specialize in something. For this dorky entrepreneur, it’s bookkeeping, but for my clients it’s brewing beer, dying yarn, installing hair extensions, teaching children about how to grow, harvest, and prepare food, how to put logos on t-shirts or mugs, financial education, window and door installation, property management and landscaping, film making and safety consulting.

They say, “It takes a village” to raise a child, but I think it also takes a village to support one another through entrepreneurship.

As humans, we cling to negative experiences like a badge of honour, but we don’t have to martyr ourselves.

You can keep your big feelings AND make positive changes in your business.

Two things can be true at the same time.

Come talk it out in Office Hour for small business owners. Mondays. 11 am EDT. Zoom. FREE.

We all have responsibilities that have to get done whether we like them or not. Finding the approach that makes you loathe it less is the key to eliminating the procrastination that ensues when we’re avoiding something.

For business owners is bookkeeping. For me, it’s fitness.

…and if you’re one of those dedicated gym-goers, especially the pre-dawn types (that’s next level), please weigh in and help the small business owners in the room how you developed a fitness habit that you’re fiercely dedicated to.

I know bookkeeping and a fitness routine seem unrelated, but how we approach making them work, is the same.

Comment or DM Zoom if you want to join my FREE weekly Office Hour Zoom sessions, Mondays at 11 am EDT in June & July. It’s unstructured, bookkeeping Q&A, for small business owners just like you.
