When I meet small business owners, they often have no idea what kind of help they need or what a bookkeeper can even do for them (or work on with them.)
Still others have had an unfavourable experience with a previous bookkeeper and might be hesitant to get involved with a new one, while at the same time, not having the confidence they feel they need to do their own bookkeeping.
All of those circumstances are valid! Regardless of whether youāre a seasoned small business owner or navigating the accounting industry for the first time, I hope this post and the other pinned posts on my feed will help you get a sense of who Lori K Aitken - Bookkeeper (or Unbookkeeper) is and what can you expect from me.
1. Iām a long-time number nerd who loves to teach non-math lovers how to not just understand, but really achieve a level of confidence and mastery over your numbers (personal or business).
2. All of the complexity of bookkeeping can be drilled down into manageable processes that when completed daily, make bookkeeping a breeze.
3. I live my business life in QuickBooks Online (QBO), but Iām quick to point out that QBO has too many features for most small business owners. Iād love to show you how to focus only on what you need in QBO, so it doesnāt cause overwhelm.
4. Iāve been a budgeter and saver since I got my first babysitting job as a kid, but I also carry a balance on my credit card sometimes, because even number nerds are humans, too.
5. I donāt prepare income tax returns.
With the help of income tax preparation software, sole proprietors can often prepare their own tax returns, and incorporated businesses really need a tax expert to ensure their corporate tax return is making the most of policies and programs available to their corporations.
6. So many business owners hold off from seeking help, because theyāre embarrassed to owe an amount to CRA. Been there, done that! ā¦and I can confirm, there is lots of life left after paying off a debt to CRA.
