Still working at 65? You don't have to turn on CPP and OAS right away.
Waiting means bigger payments later โ CPP grows 0.7% and OAS grows 0.6% for every month you delay past 65. But if you start collecting while you're still earning a paycheque, both benefits get added to your taxable income, which can push you into a higher tax bracket โ and OAS can even get clawed back once your income passes a certain level.
So before deciding to take CPP and OAS as soon as you turn 65, it's worth asking: how much of that extra income would actually go to tax? For some people still working full-time, the answer is "a lot" โ and waiting a few more years might leave you further ahead.
Every situation is different, so there's no one-size-fits-all answer.
