Claystone Waste

Claystone Waste Advanced waste management for commercial, municipal, and residential partners in Alberta. For over 30 years, Claystone Waste Ltd.

has provided leading waste management solutions for municipal, commercial, and residential partners in Alberta. Utilizing advanced technology, innovative approaches, and a community-minded outlook, we’re creating sustainable, future-ready waste handling solutions that will make an impact for generations to come. From our leading Sanitary Class II landfill to our state-of-the-art aerated composting

facility (both located in Beaver County, AB,) we are working with partners in Beaver County, the Edmonton Metropolitan Area, and beyond to dispose of or repurpose solid municipal waste, source-separated organic waste, construction and demolition waste, specialized waste, large-scale commercial waste, contaminated soil, and many other kinds of waste. Our network of conveniently-located Transfer Stations offers residents easy ways to dispose of hazardous household waste or drop off materials for recycling. No matter what we do, our priority is always to give back to our communities in the form of dividends and grants, which help to lower residential taxes, support local non-profit organizations, and fund public infrastructure upgrades and renovations. We live and breathe the inner workings of the waste management industry. Join us as we work towards creating a greener tomorrow that everyone can enjoy.

June 1, 2026 - yes, we needed the rain, but did we need so much at once?

Unfortunately, due to the weather, we are behind on our Rural Route 1 waste collections. Our crews are out collecting what they can, but it may take a couple of days to get caught up.

Thanks for your patience!

Route information and schedules can be found on our website: https://claystonewaste.com/residential-collections/rural-bin/

On May 22, Claystone met with Christy Rude and members of the BARDO Recreation Association for a cheque presentation and thank you as recipients of the Claystone Community Grant program.

It was great to see how this organization continues to support recreation in the region and to learn about their history, going back to the late 1800s!

Of all the kind words and thank you cards we receive, the ones from kids are the best.

Claystone is grateful to be able to support local not-for-profit organizations so they can continue to provide these programs and opportunities for the region.

The Claystone team had a super fun day playing “Magic School Bus” as we gave the grade 3 and 4 students of Ryley School a tour of our facility!

We showed them the old landfill cell (the big hill) and climbed to the very top, where we could see everything!

The students got to see big trucks dropping waste and how our equipment moves it around. They even learned how a “walking floor” trailer works with great sound effects from our Chief Operating Officer, Matt Rawluk.

They learned about composting and how we turn organic material (food and yard waste) into a nutrient rich compost that can be used to grow food.

The tour ended with an introduction to Garrett and Allie of Predator Birds and learned how they help control gulls at the landfill.

With so many of our team living in the Ryley area, the kids got to see many familiar faces. Our crews enjoyed showing the kids how things are done and we are excited to host more tours in the future!

If you ever want to come for a tour, let us know!

Although our Admin offices and rural transfer stations will be closed, the Ryley Transfer Station at the landfill will be open - which means you can come pick up some free compost for your gardening projects!

Don't forget to stop at the scale house and get your Giant Pumpkin Contest brochure with a ticket for a free giant pumpkin plant that can be picked up at Maple Park Farm starting Monday!

Popped by Maple Park Farm today to check on our pumpkin plants and they are looking amazing! If you want to grow your own giant pumpkin, stop by the Ryley Transfer Station at the landfill, get some free compost, then ask for a brochure from the scale house. The brochure includes a ticket that you can take to Maple Park Farm and redeem for a pumpkin plant. Only one plant per ticket, while quantities last!

It's large item pick up this month and we wanted to remind you of what is - and is not - allowed in the bins and what to do with those items.

The bins are for large household items - basically furniture and appliances - that cannot go in the regular community bin.

The bins are NOT for: regular household garbage, yard waste, construction/renovation waste, or chemicals including used oil and paint.

We recently found these five gallon pails of what appears to be used oil dropped off next to the large item pickup bins. Not only does stacking items around the bins make it difficult for our crews to empty the bins, our equipment isn't set up to collect these materials and deposit them where they should go.

Chemicals including paint and used oil can be dropped off at the Lindbrook Transfer Station, the Viking Transfer Station, or the Ryley Transfer Station at the landfill.

The transfer stations are free for residents of Tofield, Ryley, Holden, Viking, and Beaver County.

Visit our website at https://claystonewaste.com/residential-collections/transfer-stations/ for hours of operation and accepted items at the various transfer stations located throughout the region.

We had an extraordinary moment of "two worlds colliding" when our own Matt Rawluk, Claystone's Chief Operating Officer, did an interview with Joslien Wannechko, a local Beaver County resident, as part of her "Reinventing My World" video series on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/

Joslien is truly a lovely person and she is sharing extraordinary stories of people who have experienced issues with their health, particularly trauma of the brain. Joslien herself experienced a stroke in March 2020, and is the epitome of someone who didn't just survive the stroke, but is inspiring others by sharing how she reinvented her world.

Joslien interviewed Matt about his personal experience with Guillain-Barre syndrome, a rare autoimmune disorder where the immune system attacks the nerves: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gbFQ6kH7De8

You can also read about his story in the Glenrose Hospital Foundation website: https://glenrosefoundation.com/matts-story/

Thank you, Joslien!
