📢 Important Tax Update for BC Businesses – PST Expansion Effective Oct 1, 2026
The British Columbia government has announced an important change to the Provincial Sales Tax (PST) regime, effective October 1, 2026.
Starting on this date, PST will be expanded to include several professional services that were previously exempt, including:
• Accounting & bookkeeping services
• Architectural services
• Engineering & geoscience services
• Security & private investigation services
• Non-residential real estate services (including property management & strata services)
💡 What this means for businesses:
If you purchase or provide these services in BC, you will generally see an additional 7% PST applied on top of GST (5%), increasing the overall tax cost of services.
📌 For service providers:
Businesses offering these services should start preparing now for:
* Client contract updates
* Pricing and billing adjustments
* PST registration (if not already registered)
* System and invoicing changes
📅 This change takes effect October 1, 2026, so early planning is key to ensure a smooth transition.
