ACTRA Toronto is proud to be sponsoring The Path to Building an English Canada Star System at the 2026 Reelworld Summit on Oct. 20th at 11 a.m.!

Recent disruptions have made one thing clear: Canada must strengthen its ability to build audiences for its own stories, both at home and around the world. We have the talent, creators, and extraordinary stories—but not enough infrastructure connecting them with the audiences who could become their greatest advocates. This panel delves into the Reelworld Phase 1 report Findings and Strategic Framework of building a Star System for English Canada, funded by Canada Media Fund. The report maps the ecosystem surrounding English-Canadian screen talent and identifies the gaps limiting actors’ visibility and audience growth. Get a first look at the report and explore what it will take to turn Canadian talent into household names.

We are excited to announce the ACTRA Toronto Performance Lab, a new Skills Training Series to help make professional development more accessible to ACTRA Toronto Members.

Developed through consultation with producers, staff and members, these sessions focus on practical, high-value training that strengthens members’ skills and supports their ability to secure the work they want to do.

The following are the Phase 1 Skills Training Series Sessions in November and December 2026. Phase 2 Skills Training Series Sessions will take place in January 2027 and will be announced in November.

➡️ Dialect Training (4 hours total; one 4-hour session over one day)

➡️ Acting Intensives (16 hours total; 8-hour session per day over two days)

➡️ Basic Stunt Training for Film & Television (16 hours total; 8-hour session per day over two days)

We have gathered links to un-learn the myths of colonial history in Canada, watch films about residential schools in Canada⁠ and become an industry ally by completing the Shine Network Institute’s and the National Screen Institute’s P.A.C.T. online course. At the premiere of THE ONLY LIVING PICKPOCKET IN NEW YORK, co-stars Giancarlo Esposito and Will Price and director Noah Segan share what it was like working with ACTRA Toronto Member Tatiana Maslany!

"We love Tatiana. She's wonderful in this movie. She's an incredible human being, and I'm so proud to be in a film with her," said Giancarlo.

The film is also tonight's closing night gala at Cinéfest Sudbury and we hope you get to see it then, or very soon!

Thank you to all ACTRA Toronto Members who came out to our meet & greet with staff members Clare Johnston and Anisha Gliddon during Cinéfest Sudbury! It was wonderful to meet, engage with and discuss issues important to our Northern Members. Many thanks to our welcoming hosts at the Laughing Buddha.
