As the United States considers a new federal tax incentive for film and television production, ACTRA Toronto is calling on the Ford government to ensure Ontario remains a top destination to make film and television.

U.S. President Donald Trump has called on Congress to introduce a federal production incentive. Although no incentive has been enacted, the proposal signals that competition for film and television production, and the jobs they create, has intensified.

Cultural sovereignty and film and television policy are now inseparable from trade and industrial policy.

This Labour Day, September 7th, ACTRA Toronto is marching for Status of the Artist legislation in Ontario. And we want you there with us!

Status of the Artist goes back to 1980, when UNESCO urged member states to guarantee artists real security: training, social security, fair income, mobility, freedom of expression, and the right to organize. But 46 years later, Ontario still hasn't answered that call.

ACTRA Toronto is calling on the Government of Ontario to pass meaningful Status of the Artist legislation that guarantees professional artists sectoral bargaining, better protections, and stronger rights. This will deliver the security, protections and working conditions that are essential to the sustainability of the creative economy.

Status means collective bargaining. Sectoral bargaining ensures professional rights for professional artists. Status of the Artist Now!

March with us on Labour Day on Monday, September 7th and let's make our voices heard. Get details about the Labour Day Parade and register now: https://actratoronto.com/event/labour-day-parade-2026/

Back-to-school season is fast approaching, and with auditions, self-tapes, callbacks, shoots and TIFF ramping up, ACTRA Toronto wants to help make the juggle a little easier for working performer parents and caregivers.

ACTRA Toronto is continuing to offer a $50 discount on one childcare booking (minimum four hours) at The Summerhill Club, thanks to the continued support of Balancing Act Canada.

This initiative is part of ACTRA Toronto’s ongoing commitment to recognize caregiving as an essential part of supporting a sustainable career. Thanks to Level UP!, this pilot is helping us better understand what kinds of caregiver supports our members need, and how we can build on them in the future.

Spaces are limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. If you’ve been meaning to use the program, now is the time to book. This is a fantastic opportunity for you and your child to meet the extraordinary caregivers from Summerhill!

"The discussion isn't really about AI. It's about labour," said ACTRA Toronto President Kate Ziegler in a new conversation with filmmaker and actor Jessica Huras. In it, Kate and Jessica discuss why artists struggle to see themselves as labourers, what "Consent. Compensation. Control." actually means in the age of AI, and what gets lost when media power consolidates into fewer and fewer hands.
