Hi All,
I just wanted to share a cost in France which was a lot higher than I expected, a move between cities.
Our move from the USA to France for a full-service move of a 20' container was 9,500€.
We are now moving from Rennes to the suburbs of Paris. I got 5 quotes from different moving companies for our belongings ( 120 m2 apartment with 40 m3 of possessions to move). The cheapest quote was 4800€ for a summer move, prices our lower if you move outside of the summer season. This quote doesn't include the packing and unpacking of fragile items and requires the dates to be grouped with another move.
Had I picked the full-service move package like I had from the United States which included full packing and unpacking and picked my date without grouping with another family, it would have cost nearly as much as the move from the United States to France.
I wanted to share as I know a lot of people hesitate on whether to bring a container, if you are planning to bring a lot of belongings and are renting before finding your forever home, be sure to include the move cost within France as even the lower cost moves can cost several thousand euros if you hire professional movers.
Some families in France move themselves (similar to a U-Haul move in the USA), but in our case, we have some very heavy furniture, and live on the 3rd floor which requires a furniture elevator to move out our belongings via the balcony making a self-managed move much more challenging.
If you have moved within France, please share your story so that others can learn about the challenges and the cost.
Cheers,
Timothy
