📢 IMPORTANT HMRC UPDATE: Automatic Sign-Up for Making Tax Digital (MTD) Begins September 2026!
If you are a sole trader or landlord with a gross turnover over £50,000, this update is critical. HMRC has announced that, starting from September 2026, it will automatically enrol eligible taxpayers in Making Tax Digital for Income Tax if they haven't already signed up themselves. T
⚠️ What does this mean for you?
The First Deadline Has Passed: The first quarterly update deadline for MTD was 7 August 2026 (covering the period from 6 April to 5 July).
You Are Still Liable: Even if HMRC automatically signs you up later this autumn, it does not wipe the slate clean.
Backdated Records Required: You remain legally responsible for backdated digital record-keeping from 6 April 2026 onwards, as well as submitting any missed quarterly updates.
