One of the most rewarding parts of my job is seeing people achieve their goals…


For more than 12 months, I have been planning with one of my clients and producing forecasts to provide them with the peace of mind that they were in a comfortable postion to stop working and start enjoying.

Being a Financial Planner is not all about guiding people to accumulate, it’s also about the right time to decumulate.

Some of the things I closely considered were:

• How much income in retirement was needed
• A tax change from higher to basic rate which could mean a need to switch products
• Reviewing attitude to risk now they are in decumalation

…and of course, amongst many other things, a Google search for their dream holiday destination!

So, getting a picture of them today boarding a Viking cruise ship destined for Canada reminds me why I love what I do.

Scammers and their tactics are becoming even smarter.

I know of a few people recently who have been caught out with these 3 things, so thought it important to make everyone aware.

• Be careful when scanning QR codes to pay for things like car parks - scammers are sticking their own versions over the top of the official ones in places like NCP or train station car parks. Quick way of identifying if genuine is to make sure there’s no sticker on top and when you scan the QR code, double check the link name before selecting

• If you get a personalised message or social media post from a friend offering cheap concert tickets it is probably too good to be true! Hackers are taking over accounts and messages and using the terminology and style you’d expect from a friend to fool you into transferring money to them. Always pick up the phone and speak to them

• Getting an email from your boss asking you to go and buy gift cards for charity or employee recognition may sound like a good thing. The scammers create real urgency and ask you via different methods like email and text message, to scratch off the voucher code and send it on to them. Again worth a call to check in 📞

Let’s not let them out smart us!

This was an easy one for me 😊

As business owners we’re frequently asked to sponsor/donate, which is absolutely fine with me. I always try wherever possible to support this, even if it’s just with my time.

When I received a message from my daughter’s football club Hopkinstown FC looking for a shirts sponsor, it was a no brainer.

Since embarking on her football journey she has grown so much in confidence. Has met so many new friends, been to so many different places - all whilst doing something she loves.

And that you cannot put a price on.

It has nothing to do with me advertising my business on their tops for more clients. It’s all about helping the club that has given her this opportunity by supporting them to continue to keep doing the great work they do.

A massive shout out to all grassroot football coaches/volunteers for the time, energy, and commitment you bring.

Never underestimate the impact you have on our younger generation.

Someone said this to me recently - I don’t know how you do it. You’re so organised and on it!

So I sent her this picture of my desk today.
A To Do List as long as my arm. A parcel that I’ve been meaning to take back for a week. Numerous notes of self reminders 🤯.

Never presume someone has it all figured out. Just ask. Then you’ll realise we’re all just running through treacle.

Be kind to yourself with this week being Mental Health Awareness week, or any time come to that 😊.

Hopefully you’ve only heard these in a positive manner.

You’ve changed. Lost weight. Look much healthier since quitting smoking. That your new fitness regime is really paying off.

Healthy, positive changes are not only good for your well-being, but also for your wallet.

Protection premiums are calculated on risk. Did you know life & critical illness insurance premiums are typically increased by circa 51%* if you are a smoker. Increased premiums also apply if you have a high BMI.

This was a personal one for me. Knowing Sharon & Ana and seeing first hand how they work tirelessly for a cause they are so passionate about.

I was blown away when St. James's Place Charitable Foundation supported my application and made Calon Hearts Wales their charity of the year.

You could say I’m the missing piece of your jigsaw……

A potential client recently asked me -

“Why would I need to see you, I have an accountant?”

I explained you give your accountant all your figures, they then complete your tax return, and you pay your tax bill.

My part in the puzzle is that I can advise and help you reduce those end figures by effective tax planning before you give them to your accountant…all legally of course!

So in a nutshell - that’s why 😃

☺️Doing the right thing always pays dividends.

I first saw this client over 3 years ago and for various reasons I did not feel then was the right time for them. But we agreed to stay in regular contact.

Big changes happened over those 3 years, and now the business is booming, going from strength to strength, and we, along with their accountant were in agreement now was the time.

I designed a plan for profit extraction, which resulted in £72,000 Corporation Tax savings, maximising pension contributions, and de-risking the business.

It always amazes me when a new client comes for a first meeting and they haven’t reviewed their plan for 10 years and are shocked when it’s not on track and only forecasted to achieve a third of their desired income in retirement.
