Happy New Tax Year 2026/27

And with it comes a number of important tax changes to be aware of

Tax year end is approaching. A few things business owners may want to review before 5 April.

With the end of the tax year approaching, it may be worth reviewing a few areas to ensure you are making the most of available reliefs and allowances.

• Dividends. Dividend tax rates are to increase from April 2026, so it may be worth reviewing whether dividends should be taken before the year end.

• Pension contributions. Company pension contributions can often be a very tax efficient way to extract profits while building retirement savings.

• Capital expenditure. If the business is planning to purchase equipment, machinery or vehicles, it may be worth considering whether to bring this forward to utilise capital allowances.

• Director’s loan accounts. Reviewing any overdrawn balances before the year end can help avoid potential tax charges.

• Use of allowances. Ensuring personal allowances and other available reliefs are being used effectively.

Every situation is different, but a quick review before the end of the tax year can sometimes make a meaningful difference.

⛷️ Running a business is like Olympic skiing.

On TV it looks effortless.

Graceful.

World-class.

In reality?

You’re hurtling downhill at 70mph, slightly out of control, praying you don’t miss a gate
while pretending this was the strategy all along.

The gold medal isn’t for perfection.

It’s for staying upright long enough to finish the run.

Recovering from the flu, staring out the office window while the wind and rain attempt a full-scale invasion.

Spent four hours on the phone to IT support after an accidental, illness-fuelled clicking spree on software licences.

One innocent click.

Then a few “fix it” clicks.

Then several “this feels worse” clicks.

By the end I wasn’t sure if the systems were broken or if it was just me.

Anyway, weather’s dreadful, tech’s been humbled, and I’m calling today a win for simply remaining seated.

What would you do if you knew you wouldn't fail?

Whatever that is, that's your compass.

Jimmy Carr made me follow my dream with that statement.

Sunday reminder for business owners 👇

Running a business isn’t just about the numbers you see.

It’s about the ones you don’t always have time to look at.

Cash flow.

Tax liabilities building quietly in the background.

Deadlines that creep up faster than expected.

A small check-in now can prevent a big problem later.

If you’re heading into the new week with unanswered questions or a nagging feeling something’s being missed, that’s usually the right time to pause and review.

Enjoy the rest of your Sunday and start Monday with clarity, not stress.

We are here to challenge the status quo.

To look forward, not just backwards.

To act as your trusted business partner, not just an accountant.

A small team with a big vision.

December year end? You are in a critical window right now.

If your business has a December year end, the period between now and 5 April is one of the most important windows of the year and it is often missed.

This is not about last minute tax tricks.

It is about control.

By the time statutory accounts are prepared, most of the important decisions are already locked in. But right now, you still have time to step back and ask the bigger questions.

- Are profits turning into real cash?
- Is the business carrying risks you have not noticed?
- Are you extracting value in a way that protects you personally?
- Is the structure right for where the business is heading
- Would one bad year or one personal event cause problems

A short, focused review at this stage can influence far more than just the tax bill. It can improve resilience, reduce personal exposure, and make sure the business you are building actually supports your long term goals.

Strong businesses are not just profitable. They are durable.

If you have a December year end and have not yet reviewed your position before the tax year closes, this is the window where the biggest difference can still be made.
