When I first meet someone, they're rarely looking for a financial product.

They're usually looking for something much more important...

Confidence.

Confidence that they'll be able to retire when they want to.
Confidence that they're making the right decisions with their pensions and investments.
Confidence that their family will be financially secure.
Confidence that years of hard work will eventually give them the freedom to enjoy life on their terms.

That's why receiving another 5-star VouchedFor rating means so much to me.

For those who haven't heard of VouchedFor, it's the UK's leading independent review site for financial advisers, mortgage advisers, solicitors and accountants. Every review is left by a genuine client, making it a valuable source of honest feedback for people looking for trusted professional advice.

The certificate I'm sharing today isn't just about stars or ratings.

It's a reminder that the relationships I've built with my clients are based on trust, openness and helping people make informed financial decisions with confidence.

I'm incredibly grateful to everyone who has taken the time to leave a review over the years. Thank you for placing your trust in me and allowing me to play a small part in helping you achieve your financial ambitions.

If you're approaching retirement, running a business, or simply wondering whether you're making the most of your pensions and investments, perhaps now is a good time to ask yourself one question:

Do I feel confident about my financial future?

If the answer isn't an immediate "yes", I'd be delighted to have an informal chat.

Thank you again to every client who has supported me on this journey. Your feedback means more than you probably realise.

The latest Retirement Living Standards report makes for interesting reading, with the amount people need in retirement increasing compared to last year.

For some, those figures may feel daunting. It's easy to look at the numbers and think the goalposts are constantly moving.

But I'm a glass-half-full kind of person.

Rather than seeing this as bad news, I see it as a challenge worth taking on.

The first step is facing reality and understanding where you stand today. The next step is putting a clear plan in place. Once you have a plan, you can start taking action and investing towards your future.

Creating that plan is exactly what I help clients do at Carnethy Wealth. Whether you're decades away from retirement or approaching it fast, having a clear roadmap can make all the difference between hoping you'll have enough and knowing you're on track.

There's an old saying that rings true when it comes to retirement planning:

"The best time to invest was yesterday. The next best time is today."

No one can change what they did or didn't do in the past, but everyone can make a better decision going forward.

Retirement planning isn't about perfection. It's about making consistent progress and giving yourself the best possible chance of achieving the lifestyle you want.

The sooner you start, the more options you'll have.

If you'd like to understand whether you're on track for the retirement you want, I'd be happy to have a conversation.

The amount of money needed for people to achieve a good standard of living in retirement has risen significantly in the last year.

If you’re saving for retirement, one question comes up again and again:

“Should I use an ISA or a pension?”

The truth is, both can play an important role — but they work very differently.

Our latest fact sheet looks at:

How pensions and ISAs are taxed
The advantages of pension tax relief
Flexibility and access to your money

Understanding the differences could help you make better long-term decisions with your savings.

If you’d like a clearer picture of which approach may work best for you, take a look at the attached fact sheet.

Chasing top-performing funds can feel like the smart move… 📈
But in reality, it’s often driven by emotion, not strategy 🚨
By the time something looks like a “winner,” the opportunity is usually already behind you ⏳ — and switching in and out can do more harm than good.
At Carnethy Wealth, we believe in staying disciplined, diversified, and focused on the long term 🧭💼
—not following the latest hype.
🎥 In this short video, I explain why resisting performance chasing can make a real difference to your financial future.

🧠 A quick story we see all the time…
A new client came to us recently (let’s call them Mark). Like many people, Mark had moved jobs a few times and built up multiple workplace pensions.
The problem?
Most of them were “out of sight, out of mind.” 👀
Each pension came with a different provider, different login, and different fund choice — often a default fund selected when they joined the scheme years ago.
Mark’s only real interaction was an annual statement:
📄 “It’s gone up.”
📄 “It’s gone down.”
…and then life carried on.
When we pulled everything together, something changed — and it wasn’t just the numbers.
✅ Mark could finally see:

what he had in total
what he was actually invested in
whether it matched his timeline and retirement goals
how it all worked together in one joined-up plan

🎯 That’s why pension consolidation can be so powerful:
it turns scattered pots into one provider + one investment proposition + one clear strategy.
⚠️ Of course, consolidation isn’t right for everyone — some pensions contain valuable guarantees, and these must be checked before any transfer.
💬 Be honest: Do you know how many pensions you have — and where they all are?
Comment “PENSION” and we’ll share a simple checklist to help you get started.

We’ve done it again… 🎉

I’m genuinely delighted to share that I’ve been included in the VouchedFor Top Rated Financial Adviser Guide 2026 — featured in The Sunday Times 🗞️

Now, if you’re wondering… what actually is VouchedFor?

Think of it as the TripAdvisor for financial advisers. It’s a platform where real clients leave honest reviews about the advice and service they’ve received — no scripts, no fluff, just genuine feedback.

So being included in this guide isn’t something you can apply or pay for. It’s based entirely on consistent, high-quality client reviews over time.

Which is why this means so much.

To be listed again is a huge honour — and a real reflection of the trust my clients place in me every day.

And let’s be honest… in an industry that doesn’t always shout about doing things properly, recognition like this matters.

To everyone who has taken the time to leave a review, recommend me, or trust me with your financial future — thank you. It genuinely means a lot.

Here’s to continuing to do things the right way in 2026 👊

New year, new Retirement Seminars... 😊 🚔

Carnethy Wealth continues to have the privilege of presenting at retirement seminars for police officers preparing for their next chapter.

Being invited to speak to those who’ve dedicated their careers to protecting others is something we don't take lightly. We’re genuinely humbled by the trust placed in us to guide retiring officers through their options—especially around investing and building long-term financial security.

These sessions are about informing. Helping officers understand what’s possible with their lump sums, pensions, and future income, so they can move forward with clarity and confidence.

It’s an honour to be part of this journey.

If you or someone you know is approaching retirement whether the public or private sector, we’re always happy to talk through the options—without obligation.

💔Breaking up with bad financial habits can set you up for a better future. Here’s some habits to start changing:

🛍️Impulse purchases – clever marketing tactics can make us buy things we didn’t set out to purchase, and if you’re impulse buying regularly this will soon add up. Break the habit by writing a list, sticking to it and resisting temptation of discounts or offers.

🚫Not sticking to a budget… or not even having one! A budget will help you plan your spending on regular expenses, including your saving or other needs/goals. Break the habit by finding a budgeting plan that is realistic and works for you. Keep track by using a spreadsheet, notebook, or online banking app.

💀Neglecting your savings – saving might not be your priority right now, and that’s okay, but the longer you leave it, the less time you have for your money to grow. Break the habit by contributing little and often. Set up an automatic transfer if you need to!

🚗Letting your insurance policies and subscriptions renew unchecked – providers don’t always make it obvious that a better offer is available to you. Have another look at subscription plans or insurance policy quotes to re-evaluate the best option for you.

😖Putting off things that are more complex to you – The UK has a complicated tax system, so it’s okay not to understand all of it. But try to understand taxes that apply to you so that your money works more tax-efficiently. Consider speaking to a financial adviser to guide you through this.

🛣️Not having a financial plan based on your goals – it’s good to have direction, and even better to have a route to get there. Work out what your goals are, when you want to achieve them by, and how much money that will take. Then build a plan, bespoke to you and your circumstances, to get there.
