Today is National Black Dog Day.

Seems a bit strange, specifically black dogs, but apparently they are less likely to be chosen, and specifically adopted….

So, we are celebrating our very own black dog - Winston. He was born on my birthday. A surprise litter to our Border Collie Poppy who had a secret liaison with the Labrador next door 😉.

That makes Winston a Borador.

He is the most gorgeous, loving, loyal dog. He loves cuddles, his frizbee and many teddy bears and sausages, which he likes to be fed, from a fork.

Just like we should give all people a chance, and not judge a book by its cover. I would like to encourage any potential dog re-homers to consider all dogs, no matter their colour. It’s what’s on the inside that really counts.

Last week I had the pleasure to do a workshop on Profit and Value Improvement for We are Sherburn

This short snippet is a story about the Simplex D book. Now a part of bookkeeping history, from 1970-1990 it was the first choice for small businesses and sole traders with hundreds of thousands of books sold every year. Excel spreadsheets came along, closely followed by online software like Quickbooks, Xero and FreeAgent.

The story is about the importance of having a product or service that people want or need. Then keeping up to date with your market place, so that if the need changes, you don’t get caught out.

Did you ever use a Simplex D book? In my first job, I was the cashier for Edinburgh Airport and had a massive analysis book with dozens of columns in it. This was around 1990 and I moved this system onto spreadsheets. But did you love a Simplex D book??
