Year End Accountants and Tax Planning

Most tax planning conversations happen after a financial year has already closed, which is exactly backwards — by then, most of the decisions that could have reduced the bill have already expired along with the accounting period itself. Pension contributions, equipment purchases, dividend timing, and allowance use all work best when they happen before the year-end, not after.

Hayes Chartered Certified Accountants and Tax Consultants offers Year-End Tax Planning for businesses and individuals across Hayes, West London and the UK — a proper look at where your numbers are heading before the accounting period closes, so there's still time to act on what we find rather than just report it afterwards.

This matters whatever month your year actually ends in. If your company's financial year runs to December, now is exactly the window to plan. If it runs to March, June or any other month, the same principle applies on your own timeline — the earlier the conversation, the more options are still open.

Not sure when your last proper tax planning review happened? If it was at the same time as filing your last return, it was already too late to change anything. Get in touch. Call or WhatsApp 07429 584191, or visit https://hayes-accountants.co.uk/company-year-end-accounts-services

Pension Auto Enrolment for Employers

Auto-enrolment isn't something you get around to once a business feels 'big enough' — the duty starts from the day your first eligible employee joins, and The Pensions Regulator does not treat 'we're still a small business' as a valid reason to have missed it. Assess every new employee, write to them about their rights, and get eligible staff enrolled within strict statutory timeframes.

Get it wrong, and the consequences escalate — from a compliance notice, through fixed penalties, up to daily escalating penalty notices for employers who don't act. It's one of the most commonly overlooked duties among growing small businesses, precisely because it isn't triggered by a familiar tax deadline, it's triggered by a hiring decision.

Hayes Chartered Certified Accountants and Tax Consultants provides Pension Auto Enrolment support alongside our Payroll service for employers across Hayes, West London and the UK — assessment, scheme set up, ongoing compliance, and re enrolment when it's due.

Taken on staff recently, or planning to? Make sure auto-enrolment isn't the thing that slips through. Call or WhatsApp 07429 584191, or visit hayes-accountants.co.uk

Company Formation & Secretarial Services in UK

September and October are quietly one of the busiest times of year for new company registrations in the UK — a wave of ideas that spent the summer as 'maybe' finally becoming 'let's actually do this.' Forming a limited company itself takes minutes online. Setting it up correctly — the right share structure, the right registered office, the right first accounting reference date — is the part that actually matters later.

Hayes Chartered Certified Accountants and Tax Consultants provides Company Formation and Secretarial support for new businesses across Hayes, West London and the UK, handling registration with Companies House, your confirmation statement obligations, and making sure your accounting period is set up sensibly from day one rather than defaulting to whatever date the system picks for you.

Small early decisions — like your year-end date — quietly shape your Corporation Tax payment and filing deadlines for as long as the company exists, so it's worth getting right before it's locked in.

Ready to incorporate, or already have and aren't sure everything was set up correctly? Get in touch. Call or WhatsApp 07429 584191, or visit hayes-accountants.co.uk

Limited Companies Always Pay Less Tax

It's one of the most repeated pieces of business advice in the UK — 'go limited, you'll pay less tax' — and it used to be reliably true. It's no longer that simple. Corporation Tax, the extra cost of running a limited company, and dividend tax all now sit in the equation together, and the answer genuinely depends on your profit level, not just your instinct.

Sole traders pay Income Tax and National Insurance on their profits directly, with none of the extra filing that comes with a limited company. Limited companies pay Corporation Tax on profits, and directors typically pay further tax on dividends when they extract that profit personally — and dividend tax rates rose again this year, narrowing the gap between the two structures further for many business owners.

There's no single right answer, which is exactly why it's worth running your actual numbers rather than following general advice from a friend's cousin's business. Hayes Chartered Certified Accountants and Tax Consultants works with sole traders, partnerships and limited companies across Hayes, West London and the UK, and can model your specific numbers both ways before you decide.

If you started freelancing, driving for a platform, selling online, or took on any new self employed income during the 2025/26 tax year, HMRC needs to hear from you — the deadline to register for Self Assessment is 5 October 2026. Miss it, and you can be fined even if you don't actually owe any tax once it's all worked out, simply for registering late.

It's a deadline that catches out exactly the people it shouldn't — the ones who started small, weren't sure if their side income 'counted,' and kept meaning to sort it out. It counts. Hayes Chartered Certified Accountants and Tax Consultants offers Online Self-Employed Registration support, getting you correctly set up with HMRC from the start so your first Self-Assessment return isn't the first time anyone has looked at your numbers.

Registering early also means you're not scrambling for records in January — you'll know from day one what you need to keep and what you can claim, which usually means a smaller, more accurate tax bill than working it all out retrospectively.

Not sure whether you needed to register, or you know you're overdue? Get in touch this weekend rather than in November. Call or WhatsApp 07429 584191, or visit hayes-accountants.co.uk

Capital Gains Tax is one of the easiest taxes to get badly wrong, because it isn't triggered by receiving income — it's triggered by a sale, a gift, or a transfer, often on assets people have owned for years and stopped thinking about as a 'tax event.' Sell an investment property, a second home, or a significant shareholding, and the clock on reporting and paying starts immediately, not at the next Self-Assessment deadline.

For UK residential property specifically, HMRC generally expects the gain reported and any tax paid within 60 days of completion — miss that window and penalties and interest apply on top of the tax itself. Hayes Chartered Certified Accountants and Tax Consultants helps clients across Hayes, West London and the UK work out what's actually owed, claim the reliefs and allowable costs they're entitled to, and file on time.

The best time to speak to an accountant about Capital Gains Tax is before you exchange contracts, not after — reliefs and structuring options that exist before a sale often disappear once it has completed.

Planning to sell a property, shares, or another significant asset? Get in touch before you do. Call or WhatsApp 07429 584191 or visit hayes-accountants.co.uk

21/09/2026

If your company's financial year ended 30 September 2025, your CT600 Corporation Tax return is due at HMRC by the 30th, twelve months after year end. If your financial year ended 31 December 2025 instead, your annual accounts are due at Companies House by the same date, nine months after year end. Miss the CT600 and it's an automatic £100 penalty that grows the longer it's outstanding. Miss the Companies House filing and it's an automatic civil penalty starting at £150 — which doubles if you're late two years running.

The trap most directors fall into is assuming payment covers them. It doesn't. Corporation Tax payment and Corporation Tax filing are entirely separate obligations, each with its own penalty regime — you can have paid in full and still be fined for filing late. The same logic applies across HMRC and Companies House, two different regulators with two different systems.

If your year-end falls in September or December, now is the moment to check your filing status — not the 29th. Hayes Chartered Certified Accountants and Tax Consultants offers fast, fixed-fee support for both.

If you work under the Construction Industry Scheme, HMRC takes 20% (or 30% if you're not registered) off every payment before it reaches your bank account — regardless of what you actually owe once your expenses are accounted for. Most subcontractors are overpaying every month without realising it.

Hayes Chartered Certified Accountants and Tax Consultants has helped a huge number of self employed CIS workers claim back what they're owed, for a flat fee . Once we've properly accounted for tools, travel, PPE, subsistence and other allowable expenses against the tax already deducted, many clients see refunds of £2,000 to £3,000 for the year.

There's no guesswork here — our 100+ ACCA-certified accountants know exactly what CIS subcontractors can and can't claim, and we've built our 5-star Google review reputation on fast, accurate turnaround with completely transparent, fixed pricing.

If you're on the tools and haven't checked whether HMRC owes you money, it takes minutes to find out.

Specialist landlord Taxation and Accounting Services

Being a landlord used to mean one tax conversation a year. Now it means Stamp Duty Land Tax when you buy, income tax on every pound of rental profit, Capital Gains Tax when you sell, and — as of April 2026 — Making Tax Digital quarterly reporting on top of all of it. If your entire system is still a spreadsheet you started in 2019, September is a good month to change that.

Hayes Chartered Certified Accountants and Tax Consultants offers a dedicated Landlord Taxation and Accounting service, , covering portfolio-wide account management, the transition to MTD for landlords, and Capital Gains Tax planning done before you sell — not scrambled together afterwards when the options have already narrowed.

Rental income is also one of HMRC's most actively investigated areas right now, which makes proactive, properly documented accounts less about box-ticking and more about protection. Most landlords are also sitting on allowable expenses they've simply never claimed.

Whether you own one buy to let or a growing portfolio across London and the UK, book your free 15-minute consultation with a dedicated landlord accountant.
