A client told me today they’re leaving us.
The reason?
They’ve found a cheaper accountant.
We charge £299 a month.
The new accountant charges £220.
And honestly… I get it.
But it got me thinking about the construction industry 👷‍♂️

You quote £50,000 for an extension.
Another builder quotes £38,000.
Does that automatically mean you're £12,000 too expensive?
No.
Because the quotes might look similar…
But the service behind them could be completely different.
Experience.
Communication.
Advice.

Spotting problems before they become expensive.
Actually being there when you're needed.
Accounting is exactly the same.
I will never aim to be the cheapest accountant.
I want to be the accountant who understands construction businesses and helps them build a better one.

Sometimes cheaper is genuinely the right choice.
But whether you're choosing a builder or an accountant…
Don't just compare the price.
Compare what you're actually getting.

A builder came to me a while back.

Diary was full.

Phone was ringing.

Work booked months ahead.

From the outside, everything looked great.

Then I asked a simple question:

"How much profit did you make last month?"

He looked at me and laughed.

"I've got no idea."

That's more common than you might think.

Lots of construction businesses are busy.

Far fewer know if they're actually profitable.

Being busy and being successful aren't always the same thing.
