At the weekend I stood in a layby and watched Greg James cycle past on his tandem! He’s cycling 1000km from Weymouth to Edinburgh on ‘The Longest Ride’, for Comic Relief.
Cycling a long way is a lot easier when you’ve got someone on the back of the bike helping you pedal.
Running a business is the same. Trying to do everything yourself can feel like a very long uphill climb. But when you’ve got the right support behind you, things move a lot more smoothly.
That’s exactly what a good bookkeeper should feel like. Someone quietly helping you keep things moving so you can focus on where you're going.
You can try to do everything yourself … but it’s a lot easier when someone’s helping you pedal.

My mind is buzzing and I’m still absolutely knackered.
Two days in London at Accountex 2025. I learnt so much and listened to some incredible thought provoking speakers Kathryn Frimond, Leanda Daddow, Stacey Smith and Emma James.

There were so many software suppliers to catch up with and find out what tools I can implement to improve my practice efficiencies. Loved meeting the team from Work Experience for Bookkeepers and Accountants with Hey Monika.

Of course there were the parties too! A gift from one supplier as we left was chocolates and recovery kit …. this may have been put to good use on Thursday morning! Who says bookkeepers and accountants don’t know how to party?!?

But best of all was catching up with Jo, Zoe, Gill and so many of the members of The 6 Figure Bookkeeper, both old and new. You are all amazing … especially my business besties Laura (LG Virtual Services) and Steph (Books & Balance). I’m so grateful to be part of such amazing community.

Do you feel disorganised?

I had the best time on Friday celebrating the 5th Birthday of 6 Figure Bookkeeper in the amazing, and local to me, city of Bath. I was also presented with the Client Impact Award. It is such a privilege to be surrounded by 50 of the most talented and conscientious bookkeepers and accountants. Thank you Jo Wood and Zoe Whitman for creating such a supportive and collaborative group.

I was absolutely thrilled and amazed when I got nominated for the Client Impact Award at the 6FB awards. I’m speechless that I won!

I couldn’t have done it without Jo Wood and Zoe Whitman and the amazing community that is the 6 Figure Bookkeeper. Or my business besties Laura Green and Steph Nicolson. And a very special mention Nicola Fallon from Virtual Accounts & Taxes, the awesome accountant who helped and guided me through the results we got for my client.

Congratulations to Kirsty Andrews, winner of the 2024 Client Impact Award sponsored by Mimo.
This was a very difficult category to judge with some really strong entries. This showed just how much of an impact bookkeepers make to clients’ businesses.
Kirsty supported a client who went through an HMRC investigation while battling cancer. His cash flow was in a mess and he was surviving on loans and a large overdraft. Kirsty’s work resulted in a £75,000 refund for her client—the epitome of the value of a brilliant bookkeeper.

I have finally recovered from a fabulous few days at Accountex. Wow, what an event, so much to see and learn. There may have been the odd drink 🍹 🥂🍷and party 💃too. Thank you to all the 6 Figure Bookkeeper’s who made the whole experience great fun.
