8 women. 2 hours. Lots of laughter, honesty and real conversations. 🤍

Last Fridays Boss Mode: Women Unfiltered reminded me why I wanted to create this in the first place.

It’s not about having all the answers. It’s about creating a space where women can show up exactly as they are, share what’s on their mind and realise they’re not doing life alone.

One thing I reflected on afterwards…

I’m still learning how to facilitate these events well.

Even with a timer, I don’t think I’m brilliant at making sure everyone gets equal time to speak. My heart doesn’t want to interrupt someone when they’re in full flow, especially when they’re sharing something meaningful. But then I find we’ve drifted, and before I know it, we’re running out of time.

I suppose it’s not that different to my client meetings.

One of the most important skills as an adviser is really listening. Giving people the space to tell their story rather than rushing through an agenda. But there’s also a balance—you have to gently guide the conversation so everything important gets covered.

Hosting these events is teaching me that same balance.

Every meetup, every client, every conversation… I’m learning.

Thank you to the 7 amazing women who came along, shared so openly and trusted the space. I left feeling incredibly grateful (and with a few notes on how to make the next one even better!).

If you’re looking for a relaxed, supportive group of women who believe in cheering each other on rather than competing, I’d love to see you at the next one. 💛

Salary sacrifice remains one of the most tax‑efficient ways to save for retirement. But the rules won’t always be this generous.

From April 2029, changes to National Insurance treatment are set to reduce some of the current benefits, particularly for those making larger pension contributions through salary sacrifice.

For higher earners, this makes it even more important to understand what’s changing and how the current rules work. Reviewing pension contributions now could help make the most of existing tax and National Insurance efficiencies while they’re still in place.

Understanding the detail is key. Let’s chat it through.

Many households rely on a regular income to keep everyday life running.
From housing costs and bills to food and family expenses, that steady flow can matter more than people realise.

Yet when illness or injury disrupts earnings, the impact could be significant. Despite this, misconceptions about income protection are still common. Some people assume it only applies in extreme situations. Others believe it isn’t relevant to them or wouldn’t make a meaningful difference.

In reality, income protection could be more flexible and accessible than you think. It’s designed to help support a wide range of circumstances, not just worst case scenarios. There’s also a tendency to overestimate how effective existing safety nets might be, or to underestimate just how dependent households are on regular pay. In some cases, that assumption doesn’t hold up.

The key takeaway is simple.
Understanding what income protection actually covers and challenging common myths can play an important role in building financial resilience and preparing for the unexpected. If you’d like to discuss your protection options, get in touch.

As you switch on your out of office this summer, take the chance to properly switch off too.

Close the tabs on your browser. Quiet the ones in your mind. Give yourself some well-earned time to recharge.

Stepping away from your usual routine often brings a fresh perspective. With a bit of distance, it can become clearer what’s working, what isn’t, and where you might want to make a few positive changes.

That could be building healthier habits, finding more balance, or even taking a closer look at your finances.

A holiday won’t solve everything. But it can create space to reflect on what matters most.

And if a financial reset is on your list when you return, it could be a good time to start a conversation.

Because while your out of office might be on, ours isn’t.

A little fangirl moment from the weekend 🌊🤩

When I was pregnant with Mali (who’s now 4.5 years old 😳), I became completely obsessed with 100 Foot Wave. I just couldn’t get my head around how anyone could willingly ride waves the size of buildings.

Fast forward and, although I barely get the chance to surf these days between building Cooper’s Financial Planning and raising two little boys, I managed to squeeze in a lesson this weekend with my awesome coach, Mike Young Escape Surf School aka Magic Mike. 🏄‍♂️

I absolutely love it… but when Mike puts me on a wave and I realise it’s a bit bigger than I was expecting, I won’t lie… I absolutely 💩 myself! 😂 (I do totally trust you though, Mike!)

So getting to meet Andrew Cotton before his talk at the Surf & Skate Expo was a real pinch-me moment. I’ve admired him for years. Not only because he rides some of the biggest waves on the planet, but because of the mindset, courage and commitment it takes to do what he does.

And before anyone gets any ideas… Tiger-Ray has already been informed that 100-foot big wave surfing will not be his future career. Mum has spoken. 😂🌊

Generation X is sometimes described as the ‘in-between’ generation and when it comes to retirement.

Many started work just as final salary pensions were disappearing and were already well into their careers before automatic enrolment arrived. That timing may have shaped how their pension savings have developed.

For some, the challenge is not one big financial decision, but years of underestimating what retirement might actually cost.

Balancing mortgages, children, ageing parents and rising living costs often pushes pensions further down the priority list.

The good news is there may still be time to take stock.

Reviewing pension pots, exploring ways to increase contributions and building a clearer picture of retirement goals could help turn uncertainty into something more tangible.

Starting the conversation now could help make a difference.

Feeling confident about financial decisions isn’t always easy, especially when choices can feel complex or overwhelming.

Financial advice can help bring clarity and reassurance when making important decisions.

Whether it’s planning for retirement, investing for long-term goals or navigating tax rules, having expert support can help turn uncertainty into a clearer way forward.

It’s not just about investments. It’s about understanding your options and making informed decisions that reflect what matters to you.

As financial choices become more complex, having personalised guidance could help you feel more in control of your finances.

Starting that conversation can often be the first step towards achieving greater confidence. Get in touch.

Passing on money to children or grandchildren can feel straightforward.
But without clear records, it can create unnecessary Inheritance Tax issues later on.

Financial gifts may fall outside your estate after seven years, but only if they’re properly documented and meet HMRC rules. Keeping a simple record of who received what, when it was given and which allowance applied can make a real difference for loved ones dealing with your estate.

Different types of gifting can be treated very differently for tax purposes. Regular gifts from surplus income, annual exemptions and larger one‑off payments don’t all work in the same way. That detail is often overlooked. Tax rules can change and the impact of taxation depends on your circumstances, including where you live.

A little organisation now can save family members stress, delays and confusion in the future. Good financial planning isn’t just about growing wealth. It’s also about making sure money passes on efficiently and as intended.

In most relationships, we naturally fall into roles. Maybe you’re the organiser. Booking holidays, managing diaries, making plans and keeping everything moving. Or maybe you’re more relaxed, happy to let things unfold.

Those same tendencies often show up in financial decision‑making too. If you’re always the ‘doer’, carrying the mental load can become exhausting. You might be great at keeping everyday life on track, but that doesn’t mean you also need to be your own financial expert.

Between inflation, market noise, geopolitics and everyday admin, there’s already plenty competing for your attention. Focusing on what matters most to you, while having space to think clearly about your finances, can make planning feel more manageable.

You don’t have to carry the financial side alone. Talking things through with someone experienced can help lighten the load.
