Reminder for Self-Assessment taxpayers: If you complete a Self-Assessment tax return, don't forget that your second Payment on Account may be due by 31st July!

A Payment on Account is an advance payment towards your next tax bill.

Not all Self-Assessment taxpayers are required to make this payment, however. If you're not sure whether you need to make a payment, or wondering why you're being asked to pay tax in advance, we're always happy to explain.

Last week, we welcomed Year 10 student, Tate, to GLX for a week of work experience, giving him the opportunity to sample life as an accountant and gain a real insight into what we do.

Throughout the week, Tate spent time with different teams across the business, from bookkeeping and accounts to learning new Excel skills and seeing how we support our clients day-to-day.

Here's what Tate had to say about his week with us: "Before I arrived, I didn't really know what to expect from accountancy, but my week at GLX completely changed that.

Everyone made me feel so welcome from day one, and I had the chance to experience everything from bookkeeping to accounting, while picking up new Excel skills and getting a much better understanding of how a business works.

The experience has inspired me to work hard towards becoming an accountant, and I'd definitely love to come back for my Year 12 work experience if they'll have me!"

Making Tax Digital is no longer on the horizon; it's here.

If you're required to comply with Making Tax Digital for Income Tax, your first quarterly update must be submitted by 7th August 2026.

Making Tax Digital is one of the biggest changes to Income Tax reporting in recent years, but with the right support, it doesn't have to be overwhelming.

If you're still unsure what records you need to keep, which software you should be using, or whether you're fully prepared for the new requirements, speak to our team.

We're really pleased to be welcoming Tate, our work experience student, to GLX this week.

Over the next week, Tate will spend time with teams across the business, get involved in a range of tasks and projects, and discover just how varied a career in accountancy can be.

Speaking about the week ahead, manager Helen Hunt says: "As a former teacher, I've seen first-hand how valuable work experience can be in helping young people build confidence, explore career options, and discover where their strengths lie.

Having the opportunity to spend time in a real workplace can make such a difference, and we're delighted to be able to offer that experience here at GLX.

We're excited to have Tate with us, and hope this week gives him valuable experience, new skills, and plenty of inspiration for whatever comes next."

Finance can feel overwhelming, especially when your business encounters something a little out of the ordinary.

Wednesday night, some of the GLX team headed out for our annual Pub and Paddle social in Norwich.

Now in its third year, Pub and Paddle - Canoe Hire in Norwich has become one of our most popular team events.

Despite the day starting with a less-than-promising forecast, we were lucky enough to enjoy a warm, sunny evening paddling along the River Wensum.

Launching at the Ribs Of Beef, we made our way towards Norwich Train Station before paddling back with a pit-stop at The Red Lion Bishopgate along the way, then back to the Ribs of Beef to round off the evening with pizzas on the terrace.

We even finished just in time for the England kick-off (for those who were watching!).

We're already looking forward to our July social, when we'll be back on the water once again, this time for a spot of paddleboarding on the Norfolk Broads in support of Break charity alongside Keeler Recruitment.
