Happy International Dog Day! 🐢

If you've ever owned a dog, you'll know they're not cheap. Food, insurance, vet bills, toys, treats (and somehow they always need another bed!). But ask most dog owners if it's worth it, and you'll probably get the same answer. Absolutely.

Some of life's best investments aren't measured in pounds and pence. They're measured in wagging tails, muddy walks, unconditional love and someone who's always happy to see you.

So today, we'd love to meet your four-legged friends.

There's often a lot of pressure to spend more during the summer, whether it's holidays, days out or keeping the kids entertained.

But some of the best memories don't come with a big price tag.

Maybe it was:
🌳 A picnic in the park
🍦 An ice cream by the beach
🚢 A countryside walk
🎬 A family movie night at home
β˜• Coffee with a friend

Sometimes it's the simple moments that end up meaning the most.

What's the best thing you've done this summer that cost less than Β£20? We'd love to hear your ideas in the comments - you might even inspire someone else's next affordable day out.

How confident are you that your pension is invested appropriately for your goals and attitude to risk?

We asked people who completed our Pension Health Check, and the results were revealing:

πŸ“Š 49% said they're not confident
πŸ“Š 40% are only somewhat confident
πŸ“Š Just 12% said they're very confident

If you're not sure whether your pension is working as hard as it could be, you're certainly not alone.

Your pension isn't just about how much you've saved. It's also about how it's invested and whether that investment still matches your goals, your timescales and the level of risk you're comfortable taking.

A quick review today could help give you greater confidence about tomorrow.

What would you tell your 25-year-old self about money?

It's a question that often sparks some interesting conversations.

Maybe you'd say:
πŸ’· Start saving sooner, even if it's only a little.
πŸ“ˆ Learn about investing earlier.
πŸ’³ Don't rely on credit for things you don't really need.
🏑 Buy the house if you can.
❀️ Enjoy life too. Not every penny has to be saved.

The truth is, most of us learn about money through experience. We all make decisions we'd approach differently with the benefit of hindsight.

But it's never too late to make changes that your future self will thank you for.

Whether you're in your 20s, 40s or approaching retirement, taking time to review your finances today can make a real difference tomorrow.

What advice would you give your 25-year-old self about money?

For many families, September can be one of the most expensive months of the year. Uniforms, shoes, PE kits, stationery, lunches, clubs... it all adds up.

If you're starting to prepare, a few small steps can help spread the cost:

πŸ“‹ Make a list of what actually needs replacing.
πŸ‘• Check local uniform swaps or second-hand options.
πŸ›οΈ Spread purchases over a few weeks where you can.
πŸ’· Set a realistic budget before you start shopping.
βœ”οΈ Keep track of what you've spent to help avoid surprises.

You don't have to buy everything brand new, and you don't have to do it all at once.

A little planning now can help make September feel much more manageable.

It's International Self-Care Day, and when we think about looking after ourselves, we often think about exercise, eating well or taking time to recharge.

But financial wellbeing is self-care too.

Knowing your bills are covered. Having a savings pot for the unexpected. Understanding your pension. Having the right protection in place. Feeling confident enough to ask questions about your finances.

None of it is about having lots of money.

It's about reducing stress, feeling more in control and giving yourself greater peace of mind.

Looking after your finances isn't selfish. It's one of the ways you look after your future self and the people who matter most.

What's one small thing you could do today as an act of financial self-care?

Summer holidays can be brilliant, but they can also be expensive.

Keeping the kids entertained doesn't always have to cost a fortune. Many restaurants are running Kids Eat Free (or for Β£1) offers over the holidays, and there are plenty of free days out to enjoy too, from local parks to museums, nature trails and community events.

A little planning can go a long way when you're trying to make the most of the summer without stretching the budget.

What's your favourite free day out or best Kids Eat Free offer this summer? Share your recommendations in the comments so other families can benefit too.

School's out for the summer!

But it got us thinking...If financial education was a bigger part of the school curriculum, what's the one lesson every child should leave school knowing?

Maybe it's how to budget.

How credit and debt really work.

Why it's worth starting to save early.

How pensions work (before they're old enough to need one!).

Or simply that it's OK to ask questions about money.

Building financial confidence doesn't have to start in adulthood. A few simple lessons early on could help young people make more informed decisions throughout their lives.

If you could add just one money lesson to the school timetable, what would it be?

Pocket money isn't really about the money. It's about learning to make choices.

Do you spend it as soon as you get it? Save up for something bigger? Split it between saving and spending? Or realise halfway through the week that perhaps those sweets weren't the best investment?

Those little decisions are often a child's first experience of managing money, and they can help build confidence that lasts into adulthood.

There isn't one "right" way to do pocket money. Every family is different. What matters most is giving children the opportunity to learn, ask questions and understand that money is something to be managed, not something to worry about.

Do you give pocket money? And if so, what's one lesson you've tried to teach your children about money?
