then leading to auto formulate spreadsheets, easily making it possible to link files, sheet, even workbooks which saves you in some cases weeks of work to then have an out balance and you write off or do it again

I personally don’t know of anyone in the accounting or business sector who knows excel like myself, I was taught in BAE, using millions of lines to reconcile by manipulation of massive data….

Training course are ok but when back at your desk you can’t work out how to use what you learnt on your own work, that’s why I Jo is happy to do hands on.

Over trade dangers for new businesses

Over trade is when a business very quickly becomes successful, construction as an example

They are flying getting contracts, needing contractors, buying materials, but no accountant or business model has been done.

Very quickly the business cannot afford to pay staff or suppliers, they would have accepted all the contracts sold, but not looking at the spend and forecasting, or have an accountant bookkeeping.

I have personally been a part of this, the business thought they were successful, sold many contracts, had accounts with suppliers, etc

When I was taken onboard to update their accounts it was too late, no budgeting had been done, the employed director was not providing vat and net splits to the directors, incorrect bank reconciliation had been done, weeks later they had to liquidate the business , lost contracts and the part contacts accepted and money spent on then was lost, they could not afford the staff or to pay any bills.

Loosing all the money invested…… within the first year

They had no idea….

I personally use freeagent, I would advise any small business to join mettle or NatWest for their business banking and create a freeagent making tax digital system to submit your returns easily to the HMRC. Currently free, but how long for??

It’s a perfect system for a small business and the only system I know you can directly submit your returns even corp tax. Every accountant system has charges to the accountant, except freeagent. Savings all round.

My accountancy story

I never wanted to be an accountant growing up, but accountancy followed me. No matter where I worked I ended in the accounts dept.

So eventually I went to study 3 years AAT, passed every exam and I knew I had passed walking out of them.

I worked for large company’s till in my 40s, premium bonds and BAE where I got my CIMA qualification.

I left big businesses and dropped in salary to learn SME start to end bookkeeping and accounts.

After a couple of years I decided it was time to work from home and for myself, myself being rebellious and not wanting to take orders from people 😄

In one month I was set up, logo, business cards, and I did my own website (surprising what you can do when you are determined in character)

Business networking I found hard, never been one to speak in public and now having to stand up and do a speech at business networking events, wow that took the guts out of me and washed them out. But I managed.

Now 7 years later nearly and I am so proud of what I have achieved. I am now starting the business networking again and I want it on showcase my business, allowing business to speak directly to me and I can offer advice and guidance.

I am a hand holder and explain everything to the owners of businesses without extra cost, I spend time learning the business so I can transact their accounts to perfection and offer savings where I see errors.

I have learnt so much in 7 years, and I’ve found that I have never met someone as knowledgeable as myself in management accountancy!!

I love problem solving and my determined character shines and excels solving problems, my mum had some sayings I swear by

No such word as can’t
Where there is will, there is a way
The only person you can trust in life is yourself

Management accountants are one missing gap in the accounts world, they are as qualified as a chartered, some more.
CiMA and AAT are Jnaccountancy qualifications, this makes a perfect accountant for any growing SME.

The risk of bookkeepers is they are rarely qualified and only know how to transact to the trial balance, this is often incorrect as bookkeepers can easily post to balance sheet incorrectly or profit and loss.

This is then handed to a chartered accountant, who won’t go into the system and correct it. This is risk of payment of too much vat and corp tax and your Director loan taking a hit.

Your system then becomes completely useless for you to know how much profit you have made, incorrect balance sheet entries carried forward to the following year.

By getting a management accountant, they will post in forensic detail, correcting previous errors, bringing your system back in line, and working with the business closely to ensure the business grows in the future. Ensuring that on demand info can be fixed at any fixed point and balance sheet reconciled.

All at a surprisingly low cost, which can be paid in a number of ways throughout the year.

Management accountants are new to small businesses, I am finding out that this is what is more than required in a SME, there is one big gap missing between bookkeeper and chartered accounts

Management accountants like myself are qualified but in CIMA and AAT, not all will be trained in AAT but I am .

Bookkeepers, you run a risk of them not being trained in bookkeeping and handing over the trial balance (incorrect) to a chartered accountant .

Will the chartered accountant notice the errors and correct in the financial system? The simple answer in most cases is no.

This affects corporation tax, VAT and your Director loan balance !!! Are you paying too much , or not enough? Which leads you open to Hmrc investigation

Management accountants know bookkeeping in their sleep, and can reconcile to forensic detail, the balance sheet correct and balanced.
