🎓 SJP Graduation 2026 - I’m feeling very proud of this one!

After working in hospitality management for many years, I always had a real interest in the business side understanding how businesses work, looking at the numbers and helping things grow.
Making the move into financial advice was a big career change, but, it’s been one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.

Over the last couple of years, I’ve had the opportunity to work with so many amazing businesses, families and individuals, helping people understand their finances, make confident decisions and start planning for the future they want.

I’ve learnt so much along the way, met some brilliant people and discovered just how much I love what I do.
I’m so grateful for everyone who has supported me through the journey so far - my family, friends, colleagues, clients and everyone who has encouraged me along the way.

Excited to see what comes next!

The latest figures show that UK households saved 8.8% of their disposable income in Q2 2026. (UK Office for National Statistics (ONS) 2026)

But what does that mean for you?

There’s no magic number when it comes to savings. The right amount depends on your income, outgoings, lifestyle and financial goals.

A good place to start is asking yourself:

💰 Do I have enough set aside for unexpected expenses?
🏡 Am I saving towards my short and medium-term goals?
📈 Is my money in the right place for what I want it to achieve?
🔎 When did I last review my savings strategy?

Saving is important but making sure your money is working appropriately for your goals is just as important.

If you’d like to review your savings and financial plans, get in touch. 📩

What difference could an extra £50 or £100 a month make to your pension?

It’s one of those questions that’s easy to put off.

You might think:

“I’ll increase it when I earn more.”
“I’ve got too many other expenses right now.”
“Surely an extra £50 won’t make much difference?”

But small increases can add up.

For example, an extra £100 a month means £1,200 more going into your pension each year - before taking any applicable tax relief, employer contributions or investment growth into account.

And over 10 years, that’s £12,000 of additional contributions before growth.

Of course, whether increasing your contribution makes sense depends on your circumstances, affordability, pension scheme and wider financial plans. Pension tax rules also have limits and can be more complicated than they first appear.

So perhaps the better question isn't:

“Should I put more into my pension?”

It’s:

“What could increasing my contribution realistically do for my future?”

If you're confused about your pension or simply haven't looked at it for a while, sometimes the first step is just having a conversation.

The Autumn Budget is coming… but should you be doing anything differently with your money right now?

With the Budget coming up on 28th October, there’s already plenty of conversation, opinions and predictions flying around.

It can be tempting to read the headlines and immediately think:

“Should I change something?”
“Should I move my money?”
“Should I do something with my pension before the Budget?”

My advice to clients is always the same:

Don’t panic. Take a breath.

A Budget is important, but your financial plan shouldn’t be built around reacting to every headline or rumour.

Your finances are personal - what makes sense for one person may not make sense for another.

So, as we head towards the Budget, what are your thoughts?

Are you interested in what might be announced, or are you trying to switch off from all the speculation? 👇

💷 45% of working-age adults aren’t currently saving into a pension.

And whether you’re employed, self-employed, running a business or working part-time, it’s worth asking yourself:

What’s your plan for your future?

It’s easy to focus on the here and now - paying the bills, growing your career, running your business and enjoying life.

But your future deserves a plan too.

A pension is one way to build towards financial security later in life, and the earlier you start thinking about it, the more time you have to plan and make regular contributions.

You don’t need to have all the answers today.

But having a plan is a good place to start. 💭

For many people, their pension is one of the biggest assets they’ll build during their working life, yet it’s often something they rarely look at.

You might be asking:

💭 Am I paying enough into my pension?
💭 Is my pension invested appropriately for me?
💭 When could I realistically afford to retire?
💭 Will my pension provide the lifestyle I want?
💭 Am I making the most of the tax relief available?

The answers will be different for everyone.

For the 2026/27 tax year, the standard pension Annual Allowance is £60,000, although there are circumstances where a lower allowance can apply.

That’s why I don’t believe pension planning should simply be about “put more in.”

It’s about looking at the bigger picture - your income, investments, retirement plans, family and the lifestyle you ultimately want your money to support.

If your pension is something you’ve been meaning to review, sometimes the first step is simply having a conversation.

Receiving an inheritance can bring a lot of emotions and a lot of questions.

Alongside dealing with the loss of a loved one, you may suddenly find yourself asking:

💷 What should I do with the money?
🏡 Should I pay off the mortgage or other debts?
📈 Should I save or invest it?
👨‍👩‍👧 How could it support my family's future?
📋 How does it fit into our wider financial plan?

There isn't a one-size-fits-all answer. What matters is taking the time to understand your options and make decisions that are right for your circumstances, your family and your future.

I work with individuals and families across Richmond, Bedale, Northallerton and the wider North Yorkshire area, helping them make sense of their finances and plan with confidence.
