Making Tax Digital (MTD): What You Need to Know!

Did you know that HMRC is phasing out manual tax returns? Making Tax Digital (MTD) is here to simplify the process, reduce errors, and make tax filing more efficient. But what does this mean for you?

✅ Who Needs to Comply?
• VAT-registered businesses must already use MTD-compatible software.
• From April 2026, MTD for Income Tax Self Assessment (ITSA) will apply to self-employed individuals and landlords earning over £50,000.
• The threshold lowers to £30,000 in April 2027.

✅ What You Need to Do
• Use MTD-compatible software (like Xero!) to track income and expenses.
• Submit quarterly updates to HMRC instead of one annual return.

❌ No More Spreadsheets?
Not quite! While spreadsheets alone won’t be enough, some can be used with bridging software to remain compliant.
