💸 Late-night shifts & Daylight Savings: The Pay Puzzle Solved!
With the clocks set to "spring forward" this Sunday, 29 March, many business owners—especially those running bars, clubs, and 24-hour services—are asking: "How does this affect my team's pay?" 🍻🕒
In the UK, we lose an hour this weekend. Here is what you need to know to keep things fair and compliant:
1️⃣ For the "Spring Forward" (Now):
Technically, a scheduled 8-hour shift becomes 7 hours. If your team is hourly paid, they are only entitled to pay for the 7 hours worked. If they are salaried, they usually receive their standard pay.
2️⃣ For the "Fall Back" (October):
Staff might work an extra hour. Hourly staff should be paid for that extra time, while salaried staff pay remains the same unless it dips their average hourly rate below the National Minimum Wage. ⚖️
💡 Pro-Tip: Send a friendly reminder to your Sunday morning team today! It’s the easiest day of the year to be accidentally late for work. 😴⏰
