The Chancellor’s long-awaited Budget has landed — and it brings major tax changes, new rules for income and dividends, updates to corporation tax, and significant shifts in allowances, pensions, CGT and National Insurance. With thresholds frozen until 2031 and several rates rising, many people and businesses will feel the impact sooner than expected.

Attention Employers! Starting April 1, 2024, National Minimum Wage (NMW) is increasing. Here's what you need to know:

Rates are going up, and eligibility for National Living Wage expands to include 21-year-olds for the first time, with the 21-22 age category for NMW being discontinued.

Take action steps:

Review age categories and salary bands for individuals under 24.
Check fixed salaries and hourly rates.
Note that 21-year-olds now qualify for National Living Wage.
Remember, apprentice rates apply only in the first year for those aged 19 and over.
Review implications on bonuses and pensions.
Communicate increases to team members.
Update employment records.
Job Vacancies: Ensure compliance with new rates for open positions.

Impact Assessment: Consider adjustments for other employees, such as supervisors, to maintain fair compensation levels.

Stay compliant and keep your team informed!

As you will be aware, the Chancellor recently delivered his Autumn Statement on my website you'll find a summary of the main points for your information. After weeks of speculation about what may or may not be announced - abolition of inheritance tax; increase in the inheritance nil rate band; a stamp duty land tax holiday; a cut in the rate of income tax; an increase in the Vat registration threshold for small businesses; reversing the previous increases in rates of corporation tax etc etc it subsequently transpired that all in all, the whole fiscal event was a pretty dull affair. Cynics have suggested that any earth-shattering announcements will be pulled out of the hat just before the General Election!
