Right to Work rules change today.

From 1 October 2026, Right to Work checks extend beyond employees to cover a much wider range of workers across recruitment supply chains.

For agencies, MSPs, umbrella companies and end clients, that means understanding exactly who is responsible for what – and where potential compliance gaps could arise.

In our latest article, Carl Henning, General Counsel for the UK, Ireland & Nordic Regions, breaks down:

• Who is now in scope
• What umbrella companies, agencies and end clients need to do
• The three ways Right to Work checks can be completed
• What the changes mean for CIS and PSC contractors
• Practical steps to strengthen compliance across your supply chain

With civil penalties of up to £60,000 per worker, getting the process right matters.

Think your contract is outside IR35? Plenty of contractors assume so, right up until HMRC disagrees.

Status is not decided by a single clause or working habit. It comes down to the full picture, including how much control the client has, whether a genuine substitute could step in, and how the working relationship actually plays out day to day.

Our new guide from Brookson Legal explains what really determines status, and where contractors most often get it wrong.

At 12pm today, the Bank of England has held the base rate at 3.75%.

For contractors, how this affects your mortgage depends on your income structure and the type of deal you hold.

Our specialist advisers understand exactly how contractor income works, and can help you make sense of it.

From 6 April 2026, recruitment agencies can now be held liable for unpaid PAYE and National Insurance Contributions if an umbrella company in their supply chain fails to pay. That applies even if your agency did nothing wrong.

It is a significant shift, and it changes how agencies should be thinking about their umbrella relationships, their commercial arrangements, and the evidence of due diligence they can point to if HMRC comes knocking.

Brookson has put together a full breakdown of what the new rules mean and what agencies should be doing now. Read the update here:
