Wensons Happy: How do you feel about your retirement plans?

For many people, retirement is something they have been looking forward to for years.

It may mean having more time for family, travelling, developing new interests or simply enjoying a slower pace of life after decades of working.

However, as retirement gets closer, it is natural to start thinking more carefully about whether your finances will support everything you would like to do.

You may also find yourself considering how your routine will change, what will give you purpose and whether you have made the right preparations for the years ahead.

Understanding your personal priorities is an important part of approaching retirement with greater confidence.

At Wensons, we believe financial planning should take account of the life you want to live and how you feel about your financial future.

That is why we created the Wensons Happy Scorecard.

It is a short questionnaire that takes around two minutes and encourages you to reflect on your financial wellbeing and personal priorities.

If you are preparing for retirement, or have recently started enjoying it, why not take a moment to consider how happy and confident you feel about your plans?

A thought for today.

When you imagine retirement, you probably think about having more time to enjoy the things you love.

Perhaps you picture holidays, relaxed mornings, days out with grandchildren or finally getting around to those hobbies you have been putting off for years.

However, have you considered what you might miss about working life?

For many people, work provides much more than an income. It creates routine, social connections, a sense of achievement and a reason to get up with a purpose each morning.

When you retire, those familiar parts of everyday life can change quite dramatically.

Some people adjust quickly, while others find that having so much unstructured time takes a little getting used to.

It can therefore be helpful to think about how you would like to spend your retirement well before you stop working.

You may want to volunteer, join a club, develop new interests, travel or continue working occasionally in a role you enjoy.

Whatever appeals to you, having something meaningful to look forward to can make the transition considerably more rewarding.

As you prepare your finances for retirement, take some time to think about the lifestyle, relationships and activities that will make those years fulfilling.

When you start thinking about retirement, one of the first things you are likely to consider is whether you have enough money to enjoy it comfortably.

You may begin reviewing your pensions, savings and investments, working out how much income you will need and considering when you can realistically afford to stop working.

However, retirement is also one of the biggest lifestyle changes most of us will experience.

For decades, work provides a familiar routine, social interaction and a sense of purpose. When that changes, having some idea of how you would like to spend your time can make an enormous difference.

Perhaps you want to travel more, spend time with grandchildren, develop new interests or continue working part-time doing something you enjoy.

Thinking about those ambitions in advance can also help you create a financial plan that reflects the retirement you actually want.

In our latest video, Hiren discusses why preparing for retirement should involve both your financial arrangements and your personal aspirations.

If you are approaching retirement, or simply starting to think about what the next chapter might look like, take a couple of minutes to watch.

It is a useful opportunity to consider how you want to enjoy the years ahead.

If selling your business is something you have been thinking about, it is worth considering how prepared you would be if the right opportunity came along.

For many owners, their company represents decades of hard work and a substantial part of their personal wealth. Making sure an eventual sale supports their future ambitions is therefore incredibly important.

As Hiren explains in our latest video, preparing a business for sale usually requires considerable forward planning.

Potential buyers will want confidence that the company can continue operating successfully without its current owner. Strong management, reliable processes, organised finances and a realistic understanding of the business's value can all contribute to a more attractive proposition.

There may also be tax planning considerations that benefit from being explored well in advance.

Equally important is thinking about what happens to you after the sale.

Perhaps you want to retire, support your family or use the proceeds to create greater financial independence. Understanding those ambitions can help ensure your wider financial arrangements are prepared for the transition.

If you envisage selling your business in the coming years, now is a sensible time to begin planning.

Watch Hiren's video, then get in touch with Wensons to arrange a conversation about your future business sale and how your wealth could support the next chapter of your life.

Wensons Happy: Have you planned for life after your business?

Selling a business can be one of the most rewarding moments in an entrepreneur's life.

After years of hard work, it may provide the financial freedom to spend more time with family, travel, pursue new interests or simply enjoy a different pace of life.

However, when your business has been such an important part of your life, it is worth thinking carefully about what you want the next chapter to look like.

For some people, retirement is the ambition. Others may want to continue working in some capacity, support their children financially or pursue projects they have never previously had time for.

Understanding those priorities can help you make more informed decisions about your financial future.
At Wensons, we believe financial wellbeing is closely connected to how confidently you feel your money can support the life you want to live.

That is why we created the Wensons Happy Scorecard.

It is a short questionnaire that takes around two minutes and encourages you to reflect on your financial life and personal priorities.

If you are considering selling your business, or simply thinking about what you want from the years ahead, why not take a moment for yourself?

A thought for today.

If you decided to take three months away from your business, how well would everything continue without you?

For many owners, that question is surprisingly difficult to answer.

When you have spent years building a company, it is natural to become closely involved in almost every aspect of its operation. You may manage important client relationships, make the major commercial decisions and hold knowledge that nobody else in the business possesses.

However, if you eventually decide to sell, a prospective buyer will want confidence that the company can continue performing after you leave.
A business that depends entirely on its owner can be more difficult to transfer successfully.

Developing a strong management team, documenting important processes and gradually sharing responsibilities can all help make the company more attractive to potential buyers.

These improvements may also make your working life more enjoyable in the meantime, giving you greater flexibility and reducing the need to be involved in every decision.

Even if selling your business is still several years away, it is worth considering how successfully it could operate without you.

The earlier you identify areas that need attention, the more time you have to address them.

05/10/2026

If you own a successful business, there may come a time when you decide you would like to sell it and enjoy the rewards of everything you have built.

Perhaps you are thinking about retirement, spending more time with family or pursuing something completely different.

Whatever your motivation, preparing a business for sale is something that deserves attention well before you are ready to leave.

One of the most important considerations is whether the company can continue operating successfully without you.

Potential buyers will want to see strong management, reliable processes, organised financial information and a business that does not depend entirely on its current owner.

Preparing early also provides time to understand what your company might realistically be worth and explore the potential tax implications of a future sale.

There is also the question of what comes afterwards. For many business owners, stepping away from something they have spent decades building can be a significant personal adjustment.

In our latest video, Hiren explains why forward planning matters and how preparing for a business sale involves more than finding someone willing to buy.

If selling your business is something you might consider in the future, take a couple of minutes to watch.

There are some financial decisions we make quickly and others that remain on the to-do list for years.

Legacy planning often falls into the second category.

Perhaps you already have a Will, but it was written a long time ago and life has changed since then. Maybe your wealth has grown, grandchildren have arrived, a business has been sold or your priorities are simply different today.

Perhaps you have never sat down and considered what you actually want your wealth to achieve in the future.

These are useful conversations to have before there is any urgency.

As Hiren explains in our latest video, good legacy planning can help provide clarity for your family, ensure your wishes are understood and allow you to think carefully about the opportunities you want your wealth to create for future generations.

There may also be inheritance tax considerations and other financial planning decisions that benefit from being explored well in advance.

If you have watched the video and recognised something you have been meaning to address, do not simply put it back on the list.

Watch Hiren’s video again and contact Wensons to arrange a conversation about your legacy plans.

Getting started may be simpler than you think.

25/09/2026

How happy do you feel about the plans you have made for your financial future?

It is a simple question, but your answer can reveal quite a lot.

Legacy planning is one area where people often feel they have unfinished business. Perhaps a Will needs reviewing. Maybe you have never really discussed your wishes with your family. You might know that you want to help children or grandchildren but have not yet worked out what that could look like.

Leaving those questions unanswered can create uncertainty. Addressing them can bring clarity and a sense that things are properly organised.

That wider connection between money, confidence and how we feel about life is important to us at Wensons.

It is why we created the Wensons Happy Scorecard.

The questionnaire takes around two minutes and gives you an opportunity to think about your financial life from a broader perspective.

You do not need to prepare anything or dig out financial statements. You simply need to answer the questions.

If our legacy planning video has got you thinking about your future, this is a good opportunity to continue the conversation with yourself.

A thought for today.

“What kind of impact do I want my life to have?”

It is one of the questions Hiren asks in our legacy planning video.

We spend decades building our financial lives. We work, save, invest, buy property and perhaps build businesses. We naturally concentrate on creating security and enjoying the rewards of everything we have achieved.

At some point, it can be valuable to think about what we would eventually like that wealth to achieve for other people.

Perhaps you would like to help your grandchildren with their education or their first home. You may want to give your children greater financial security or support a cause that has played an important role in your life.

For other people, the priority is simply knowing that their family will be looked after and that their wishes will be understood.

Legacy planning gives you the opportunity to think about those questions while you have the time and space to make considered decisions.

The value of a legacy is not only measured by what somebody receives.

It can also be measured by what it allows them to do.
