Have you missed the first MTD for Income Tax deadline? Do not panic — but do not ignore it!
The first quarterly MTD deadline was 7th August 2026.
If you have missed it, the good news is that HMRC will not issue penalty points for late quarterly updates during the 2026/27 tax year. However, you still need to catch up and submit the outstanding update.
So, what should you do now?
✅ Make sure you are registered for MTD for Income Tax
✅ Use HMRC-compatible accounting software
✅ Bring your digital bookkeeping records up to date from the start of the tax year
✅ Submit the overdue quarterly update as soon as possible
✅ Keep your records up to date ready for the next deadline — 7th November 2026
If you are unsure where to start, we can help you get your bookkeeping up to date, make sure your software is ready for MTD and prepare and submit your quarterly updates to HMRC.
Missing the deadline does not make the problem disappear — but it can be sorted.
