J&S Bookkeeping Services are frequently asked:

👉 When does MTD start?

From 6 April 2026, Making Tax Digital for Income Tax Self-Assessment (MTD ITSA) will apply to sole traders (and landlords) with an annual income of more than £50,000.

Under MTD, instead of filing one Self-Assessment tax return each year, you’ll need to:

✅ Keep your business records digitally
✅ Use HMRC-approved accounting software
✅ Submit quarterly updates of your income and expenses to HMRC

Moving to digital bookkeeping early will make the 2026 transition smoother and stress-free.
