So… how did I end up here? 🤔
Running KMH Bookkeeping definitely wasn’t something I planned when I started working.
In fact, my background probably isn’t what you’d expect from someone who now spends his days looking through accounts, tax returns and spreadsheets. 😂
I spent a big part of my career in engineering and manufacturing, eventually working as an NPI (New Product Introduction) engineer/manager.
That meant being responsible for new products, manufacturing changes and projects worth millions of pounds, including moving products and manufacturing processes around the world.
And anyone who’s worked in engineering will probably agree with me when I say…
It’s almost as much about numbers, budgets, costs and spreadsheets as it is engineering. 😂
But that’s only one part of my story.
I’ve also been self-employed for more years than I care to admit, I’ve run businesses, worked as a weight-loss and life coach, become a landlord and built up my own property interests.
So I’ve spent a lot of my working life sitting on the other side of the desk.
I’ve had to worry about whether there’s enough money coming in.
I’ve had to understand costs.
I’ve had to make decisions about where money should be spent.
I’ve had tax bills arrive.
I’ve had properties, tenants, invoices, wages and businesses to manage.
And I’ve certainly made a few mistakes along the way too. 😂
I think that’s probably shaped the way I now run KMH Bookkeeping more than anything else.
Because when somebody sends me their accounts, I don’t just see a set of numbers.
There’s normally a person behind them trying to run a business, earn a living and work out whether they’re actually doing OK.
And I know what that feels like.
I never wanted KMH to feel like somewhere you were frightened to ask a question because you thought it might sound stupid.
Or somewhere you only hear from once a year when somebody wants your records.
I’d much rather someone message me and say:
“Kev, I’ve done this… have I messed it up?” 😂
We can normally sort it.
And trust me, after engineering, property, running businesses and years of coaching people through their lives…
I’ve heard and seen most things. You’re unlikely to shock me. 😂
There is actually a story behind why I finally decided to turn something I’d been doing and helping people with for years into KMH Bookkeeping.
I’ll tell you that one properly soon. 👀
But now I’m interested in everyone else…
Did you actually plan the career or business you’re in today?
Or, like me, did life take you on a slightly unexpected route to get there?
👇 Tell me how you ended up doing what you do.
