£35,000+ VAT REFUND — SUCCESSFULLY DEFENDED 👏

Today we received confirmation that HMRC have agreed to close a VAT compliance check that we’ve been defending for one of our clients for the last 9 months

The amount at stake was over £35,000.

We believed our client was entitled to the VAT refund, so we stood by them, challenged the points raised, provided the evidence and kept fighting their corner until the very end.

And today, after many, many hours of work from our team, HMRC confirmed the check is closed and our client’s refund has been accepted 🙌

Even better — thanks to the Tax Investigation Insurance we offer to our clients, all of those hours spent defending the VAT position didn’t cost our client a single penny in additional accountancy fees.

That’s something we’re incredibly proud of.

Being a good accountant isn't just about submitting returns and meeting deadlines. When something like this happens, we want our clients to know that we’re in their corner

If we genuinely believe you're entitled to something, we'll do everything we reasonably can to make sure your position is properly represented.

A huge well done to the YourBooks team. Nine months of persistence. £35,000+ at stake. One very happy client.

Imagine this... 👀

A construction company changes accountants after being told they need to pay £18,000 in Corporation Tax 💷

The new accountant ( YourBooks ) starts their usual onboarding review and something doesn't quite add up.....

After digging deeper, they discover well over £18,000 of CIS tax suffered that hasn't been correctly reflected in the clients books 🤯

Some corrective bookkeeping and call to HMRC, the Corporation Tax is offset against the CIS suffered, and not only does the £18,000 tax bill disappear... the client is actually due a refund on top!

The scary part?

Without that second review, the business could have paid the £18,000 and carried on, none the wiser.... 🤦‍♂️

It's a reminder that in construction, getting the numbers right isn't just about filing accounts. It's about making sure every CIS deduction is properly accounted for and every penny you're entitled to is claimed.

Sometimes, asking one more question can make all the difference....
