Headship is not a solo assignment.

Being the head of a home carries responsibility — to provide, to lead, to guide, to protect and to make wise decisions.

But a man's leadership is not weakened when his wife stands with him. Her support is not a threat to his headship; it can be part of what strengthens the home.

Marriage is partnership. There will be seasons when one carries more, seasons when circumstances change, and seasons when both simply have to figure things out together.

The goal is not to compete over who provides more. The goal is to build a home that stands.

Job loss doesn't mean losing manhood.

This is a question many men quietly wrestle with: If I can no longer provide the way I used to, am I still the man of the house?

Life can change in ways we never planned. A job can disappear. Income can drop. Circumstances can shift.

But a man's identity cannot be built solely on his ability to earn.

Provision matters. Responsibility matters. But so do presence, leadership, wisdom, resilience and the ability to walk with your family through difficult seasons.

Sometimes life changes the way you provide — but it doesn't have to change who you are.

This was another powerful reflection from my conversation with Chris Wanga on Father Studies.

A season may change your circumstances. It doesn't have to define your manhood.

Bad coaches can change the trajectory of a life.

One of the things I've learnt over the years is that who you allow to speak into your life matters.

Mentors, coaches, friends and even people we admire can influence the decisions we make and the direction we take.

The question isn't only “Who is advising me?”
It's also “What qualifies them to speak into this area of my life?”

This was one of the many unexpected wisdom nuggets that came out of my conversation with Chris Wanga on Father Studies.

A question worth sitting with: “Are you the head because of the money you bring home?”

Having walked through 25 years of marriage with Christine Weche, fatherhood, success, setbacks, provision and seasons of uncertainty, I've come to appreciate that a man's value at home cannot be reduced to his income.

Money matters. Provision matters. Responsibility matters.

But so do presence, character, friendship, faith, wisdom, sacrifice and the ability to lead through both abundance and adversity.

Thank you, Chris Wanga , for the conversation and for giving me the opportunity to reflect openly on a journey that is still unfolding.

The goal isn't simply to provide for a family. It is to help build a family that can stand.

Over time, I’ve come to realize that clarity is not something people stumble into—it’s something they are guided into.

In my journey, through both challenges and growth, I’ve had the privilege of walking with individuals as they build financial confidence and learn to live more intentionally. But along the way, something deeper has continued to grow in me.

A burden… and a responsibility.

A burden for young people who are trying to figure out who they are, navigate pressure, and make decisions that will shape their future—often without guidance.

And a responsibility to not just observe it, but to step in and walk with them.

This is why I am increasingly leaning into youth mentorship—creating space for honest conversations around purpose, discipline, life choices, and direction.

Not as someone who has all the answers, but as someone willing to walk the journey with them.

Because I’ve come to believe that when a young person gains clarity early in life, it changes everything.

This is a space I’m committed to growing in—and I’m open to walking with those who are willing to grow.
