Every politician aspiring to be the President MUST read this great piece by Governor Irungu Kang'ata.
He gives five truths that a serious Presidential Candidate MUST have/do to be among the horses and not the donkeys in the race.
Number 1: Ethic arithmetic: Be a tribalist but a smart one because, a serious Presidential Candidate MUST first dance in his or her homestead before doing it in the village square. The journey to the Presidency begins in the person's ethnic base, before spreading to other regions.
Number 2: Surround yourself with elected leaders especially MPs and Senators since they tend to be combative. These are people who will say what you as a Presidential Candidate package can't say.
Number 3: Endless press conferences are non productive. Let the media find you addressing people, but not the other way around. Raise your stakes by being limited to press conferences where you are the host, start being a guest to the media.
Number 4: Out of sight, out of mind. You MUST be in people's minds continuosly. Kenyans MUST see and hear you without fail.
Number 5: Sharpen you tongue. Attack your opponents, but with substance not insults all the time.
Number 6: Publicity.
Number 7: Be original.
Number 8: Fight in enemy territory, not your home turf.
Number 9: Have political mercenaries.
Out of the 9, how is your favourite Presidential Candidate fairing?
He ends the article with, ignore the rules and you may still run, but end up like Mukaru Ngangas and the Mwalimu Didas.
