Cohort One is in.

We spent this morning on what the job actually is. Not the fantasy version — the real one. The paperwork. The due diligence. The part where somebody sits across from you with a letter from the IRS and you have to stay calm and know what you're looking at.

Everybody in that room already had the thing I can't teach: people already trust them. My job between now and January is to put training underneath it.

Training starts September 29. Class of 2027.

If you were supposed to be in that room and life happened — text me. There's another one on the 19th.

We're looking for tax preparers.

Here's the part almost nobody knows: the entire legal requirement to prepare and sign a federal tax return for money is a PTIN. It costs $18.75 and takes about fifteen minutes online, directly from the IRS.
No degree. No exam. No license. Wisconsin doesn't register preparers. Neither does Georgia.

Now — that should make you a little uncomfortable, and it's exactly why I spend every February fixing returns somebody else got wrong.

I'm hosting a free orientation on Saturday, August 29 at 9:30 AM Central for people who want to know what this work actually is. What it takes. What it costs. What the first season really looks like — including the parts nobody tells you.

If you're the person in your family who already gets the tax questions, this is worth an hour of your Saturday morning.
