Treasury Bill rates just fell to their lowest level this year. So why are investors still rushing to buy?

Today’s auction saw the 364-day T-bill rate fall to 15.89%, its lowest level this year.

This comes shortly after the CBN cut the MPR from 26.5% to 23%.

But despite the lower yield, investors still submitted ₦4.09 trillion in bids for just ₦400 billion worth of the 364-day bills on offer.

Why?

Because investors may be anticipating that interest rates will continue to fall.

So some are choosing to lock in today’s yield before rates potentially fall even further.

A family can be doing well financially and still need a better money plan.

Paying the bills is important. Providing for your children is important. Enjoying the money you work hard for is important too.

But building financial security requires thinking beyond today.

Emergency funds.
Investments.
Retirement.
Children’s future.
Protection against unexpected income loss.

You don’t have to have everything figured out at once.

Just start having the conversations and making the plans.

What is ONE financial goal you think every family should have?

The CBN just cut the MPR from 26.5% to 23% a 350bps cut.

So, what does this mean for your investments?

As interest rates fall, yields on instruments like Treasury Bills and money market funds may come under pressure.

At the same time, lower rates could make equities relatively more attractive to some investors.

This doesn’t mean you should rush out of fixed income and buy stocks.

It means the investment environment is changing and it may be time to review your portfolio.

If you invest in Nigeria, this is something you should be paying attention to.

What are you currently invested in: T-Bills, money market funds, or stocks?

GTCO — ₦40K
Banking, dividends

Seplat — ₦35K
Oil and gas exposure

Dangote Cement — ₦30K
Infrastructure, industrial exposure

MTN Nigeria — ₦25K
Telecom, data growth

NAHCO — ₦20K
Aviation, logistics exposure

Dangote Refinery IPO — ₦50K
Refining, energy exposure

I would not spread ₦200K across 10 stocks.
I would rather have fewer stocks with meaningful allocations, while still diversifying across sectors.

Which one would you remove, and what would you replace it with?

This is how I would structure it based on my strategy, not a recommendation to buy.

Do you know what you actually earn?

Most of us know the amount that enters our bank account every month.

But do you know your gross salary, deductions, employer contributions, benefits and total compensation?

Your salary is only one part of the picture.

Understanding your payslip can help you make better decisions when it comes to budgeting, negotiating a new job, evaluating an offer and building wealth.

So today, go and find your payslip. Read it. Understand it. Ask questions about anything you don’t understand.

Do you know what every line on your payslip means?

If you have a question, drop it in the comments or send me a DM. I will answer some of the questions in my next post.

Save this. You might need it when your next salary review comes around.

The plan is to gift the shares to the child on their 18th birthday.

The child doesn’t even know how lucky they are.

But this is bigger than Dangote.

Teach your children about investing.
Teach them about compounding.
Teach them about ownership.

Don’t just teach them how to spend money.

Teach them how to make money work for them.

You could even start by buying shares for them and letting time do its work.

Imagine an 18 year old who already understands what it means to own a piece of a business.

That’s the kind of head start we should be giving our children.

Would you consider buying Dangote Refinery shares for your child?
