One of the most unforgettable experiences I had with a former boss came from the simple statement:
âHajia will not agree.â
Follow me closely and catch the gistđ
After spending some time working with the company, I built systems.
I put clear policies in place against theft, misconduct, and anything that could silently damage the business.
More importantly, I made sure every staff understood that these werenât just rules on paper but standards to live by.
Then one day, something interesting happened.
The director who wasnât always around for the day-to-day operations, came in and gave a direct order to a staff member, But the instruction clearly went against the policies already in place.
Now, this is where it gets interestingđ
The staff didnât rush to obey.
Instead, she paused and began to plead:
âPlease sir⌠Hajia will not agree.
Hajia has already made it clear, please sir, Hajia will not agree.â
Imagine that for a second đ¤đ¤đ¤
The director was shocked, But more than that, he was impressed.
Later, he called me in and said something I will never forget.
He appreciated not just the work I did, but the culture I built, the kind that makes people do the right thing even when authority says otherwise.
After several months, I eventually approached and told him I would be leaving the company and he said:
âHajia, you have impacted my company in ways I never imagined.
I may move on in life and forget names, but one thing I will never forget is this, "Hajia will not agree.â
And honestly, that stayed with me.
Because honestly speaking, true impact is not in how present you are.
Itâs in what remains even in your absence.
So my dear, you know what â
Build systems that speak for you.
Create standards that outlive you.
Let your work leave a voice behind, one that says, even when youâre not there:
âThis is not how we do things here.â
