The thousand dollar seed deposit available through the new 530A account, also called a Trump account, comes with conditions that matter for families abroad.
The child must be a US citizen. The child must have a Social Security number. The child must have been born between January 1st, 2025 and December 31st, 2028. And to actually claim the deposit, parents need to file a specific form with the Treasury called Form 4547.
For US citizen children born abroad who have never been issued a Social Security number, that last point is the one to pay attention to. The citizenship is there. The eligibility is not, until the Social Security number is obtained.
In today's episode of Passport To Wealth™, Christie DuChateau walks through all of this and what the account opening process looks like for families with foreign addresses. The experience on the app and the web version turned out to be meaningfully different, in ways that matter if you are working through this from outside the US.
