💫Meet Jazmine

When Jazmine was seven years old, she was diagnosed with dyslexia and told university might not be the right path for her. Rather than accepting that advice, she quietly made a decision that would shape her future.

As a recipient of the 2026 BDO Sir Henare Ngata Scholarship for Māori accounting students, Jazmine is looking forward to going home and joining the team at BDO Northland.

"This scholarship gets you moving in the right direction. It connects you with people, opens doors and gives you opportunities that might otherwise take years to build."

💫 Meet William

William pivoted from a marketing degree into accounting, after realising his passion for numbers, problem solving and working with people.

As a recipient of the 2026 BDO Sir Henare Ngata Scholarship for Māori accounting students, he’ll be joining the team at BDO Wellington and is really looking forward to developing his professional career.

“I have some really important role models who have made me who I am. I want to have the same sort of impact on someone else.

💫 Meet Maioha

Maioha has always had a passion for business. She likes people and building relationships, so she wants to be able to give back to as many people as possible.

As a recipient of the 2026 BDO Sir Henare Ngata Scholarship for Māori accounting students, she will soon join BDO Northland, working out of BDO Auckland’s Takapuna office.

“I want to help create a world where Māori can be financially successful, and where they can learn financial literacy to help them in their daily lives.”

✨ As we prepare to celebrate Matariki later this week, we're reminded that this special time is about reflection, renewal and looking ahead with purpose.
It feels fitting to share the recipients of the 2026 Sir Henare Ngata Scholarship, a kaupapa that supports Māori accounting students as they pursue their aspirations and help shape the future of our profession.

This year brought a record number of applications, making the selection process incredibly difficult. The strength, talent and mana shown by every applicant, and their commitment to their whānau and communities, was inspiring.

Congratulations to our 2026 recipients:
⭐️ Maioha Andrews
⭐️ William Bovey
⭐️ Jazmine Murray

E mihi ana ki a koutou. We are proud to support your journeys and look forward to seeing the impact you will make for your whānau, communities and the accounting profession.

Over the next few days, we'll be introducing each recipient and sharing a little more about their story, their goals and what this scholarship means to them.

Launching today, the 2026 BDO Construction Sector Report reveals that overall business performance sentiment has softened year-on-year, and economic and political uncertainty continues to weigh on construction business leaders, making it harder for them to invest, hire and plan for growth.

While the sector might not feel confident in the traditional sense, it is one that continues to adapt: There are signs of resilience emerging.

Based on a nationwide survey in April-May 2026, our report captures construction business leaders’ expectations for the future and takes a closer look at specific projects, business types and regional variations.

For an overview, watch our video insights from Nick Innes-Jones, BDO National Construction Sector Leader, or read the full report here: https://www.bdo.nz/en-nz/industries/construction-and-real-estate/2026-construction-sector-report

We know that many farmers are thinking about the long-term sustainability of their work. Leaving a legacy, not a lemon.

Effective succession planning is often the key to securing intergenerational success. It can seem daunting for many farmers, but if you have the right people around you, it doesn't have to be.

Learn how BDO's Agribusiness team supported the Webb family to expand their operations, and what succession has meant for them.
