The recent OCR announcement keeping the rate at 2.25% offers short‑term certainty, but the RBNZ has signaled that rate rises are still likely later this year.

For homeowners and buyers, this pause offers a brief window to reassess lending decisions with confidence.

Key points to know:
🏡 Mortgage rates remain steady for now, giving borrowers a short‑term breather.

📈 Inflation is expected to peak at 4.3% later this year before easing toward the 2% target by mid‑2027.

⚠️ The RBNZ has indicated that future OCR increases are likely, depending on inflation and global conditions.

What this means for you:
If your loan is coming up for refix, this stability may offer better short‑term options than earlier in the year.

First‑home buyers can plan with more certainty around repayments.

Investors may find opportunities as confidence slowly returns to the market.

My professional view:
This is a smart moment to review your loan structure. Even with the OCR on hold, the outlook remains dynamic — and the right mix of fixed and floating rates can protect you from future volatility.

⭐ Why 2026 Is a Smart Time to Review Your Home Loan

Interest rates and lending rules have shifted a lot over the past few years — and many homeowners are feeling the pressure.

But 2026 also brings some real opportunities if you take a moment to review your lending.

Here are a few reasons it’s worth checking your options:

• Some banks are offering sharper rates for strong profiles
• Refinancing incentives are starting to return
• Your loan structure might be improved to help cashflow
• Many fixed terms are expiring this year — a good chance to reset and get a better deal

A quick review can help you see whether you’re in the best position… or if there’s room to save money, reduce stress, or plan ahead more confidently.

If you’d like a second opinion or just a fresh set of eyes on your lending, I’m here to help.
