One of the best parts of running Counted is seeing how many small businesses quietly support each other. Referrals, recommendations, sharing a post, checking in after a tough week, those small actions make a big difference.

Small business isn’t just about numbers. It’s about people backing people.

Short answer: no.

Whether it’s organising your receipts, recording your transactions, keeping track of invoices or simply knowing where everything is, there isn’t one right way to do it. You might use software, spreadsheets, folders, an app, or a combination of a few things.

The important thing is that it works for you and you actually use it.
A simple system you keep up with is much better than a fancy one that becomes another thing on your never-ending to-do list.

Do what works for you. 👍

A reminder for every small business owner

If you:

✔ sent the invoices
✔ replied to customers
✔ kept going even when it felt messy
✔ showed up for your business today

…that counts as progress.

Not every win has to be a huge milestone.

A few things we’ve learned the hard way as business owners

• Busy doesn’t always mean profitable
• The best systems are the ones you’ll actually use
• Taking a day off is sometimes the most productive thing you can do

We work with business owners every day, but we’re business owners too. These behind-the-scenes lessons are often the ones that matter most.

Have you ever used AI for shopping or to find services? We did an experiment on a few broad searches to see what would come up and it was rather interesting. More people are now using AI tools as part of their search process. They’re asking questions, looking for recommendations and discovering businesses they may not have found otherwise.

So how do you make sure your business has a chance of showing up? Well it's ongoing, you always need to be updating, posting regularly (whatever you choose is regular for you), and generally keeping everything current.

Keep up with the basics:

✅ Make your website clear about what you sell and who you help
✅ Use the words your customers actually type into search
✅ Write helpful content that answers questions people ask
✅ Add detailed product or service descriptions
✅ Make sure your location, opening hours and contact details are easy to find
✅ Keep your online presence consistent

AI can only work with the information it can find. If your website simply says “Welcome to our business” and doesn’t explain your products, services or what makes you different, you’re making it harder for both people and search engines to understand you. Your website is still your biggest online asset. Think of it as your digital salesperson working 24/7.

Have you tried asking AI to find your own business yet? It’s a really interesting little experiment 👀

Running a business on your own can be incredibly rewarding, but it can also feel like a lot. One minute you’re doing the work you love, the next you’re answering emails, sending invoices, posting on social media, chasing paperwork, and trying to keep everything running smoothly.

It’s easy to think you have to do it all yourself. But the truth is, asking for help isn’t a weakness, it’s often what helps a business grow. At Counted, our team aren’t employees. We’re all business owners too. We understand the long days, the constant juggling, and the pressure that comes with wearing all the hats because we live it ourselves.

That’s what makes Counted different. We work alongside our clients with real-world experience, practical support, and a genuine understanding of what it takes to run a business day to day.

You don’t have to do everything alone. 🤍

Ever feel like your business has a few “hot and cold” months?
It might not be you, it might just be the cycle.

Things like school holidays, fuel prices, public holidays, even the weather, can all impact how much money comes in and goes out. And most of them follow a bit of a pattern.

We recommend keeping a simple “business diary” – nothing fancy, just jot down when things are busy or quiet and what else is going on.

Over time, you’ll spot your own business rhythm. And that can help you feel a lot more in control when cashflow dips or spikes.

Want a hand looking at your trends? We’re here to help.
