One of the most powerful lessons from Simon Sinek:
As you gain seniority, people start treating you differently.
Doors are opened for you.
Youâre given better seats.
People become more attentive.
And instead of a styrofoam cup, youâre handed the ceramic one.
But hereâs what every leader needs to remember:
The ceramic cup was never meant for you.
It was meant for the position you hold.
Without the title, the rank, or the recognition, weâre still the same person who deserves the styrofoam cup.
And thatâs where humility comes in.
As you rise, donât confuse privilege with personal importance.
Titles can change. Positions can disappear. Recognition can move to someone else.
But your character stays with you.
So when people start treating you like youâre important, donât ask, âHow can I enjoy this privilege?â
Ask instead:
âNow that I have influence, how can I use it to make things better for the people around me?â
Thatâs leadership.
Keep the ceramic cup if it comes.
But never forget that youâre still okay with the styrofoam one. âď¸
Stay humble. Stay grounded. Keep serving.
