PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control, Syed Fakhar Jehan, has directed Excise and Taxation offices in Peshawar and district-level officers to intensify efforts to surpass their assigned revenue collection targets.

He issued these instructions while chairing a meeting at the Directorate General of Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control in Hayatabad to review the province’s six-month tax recovery performance. The minister emphasized the importance of broadening the tax base and ensuring that new taxable units are brought into the system strictly in accordance with the law.

Syed Fakhar Jehan stressed that officers should not be satisfied with merely meeting targets but must actively mobilize field staff to exceed revenue expectations. He warned that any negligence in this regard would not be tolerated.

The meeting was attended by Secretary Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control Khalid Ilyas, along with directors and Excise and Taxation Officers from various districts.

During the briefing, the minister was presented with detailed statistics on tax revenues, including December collections and cumulative performance over the past six months, covering Peshawar and all other districts under various taxation heads.

The minister further stated that revenue figures for the next six months must show a marked increase, enabling the department to contribute additional funds to the government exchequer beyond the prescribed annual targets.

It was also decided that monthly performance review meetings would be held under the chairmanship of the Secretary Excise, while the provincial minister will personally review tax collection progress again in April.
